Piano-led modern jazz from soundtrack loving keyboardist and composer Ecclestone, who utilises the same dramatic tension Miles Davis (circa his Gil Evans period) was so good at creating, via dashes of electronica and European minimalism alongside top notch soloing. This intriguing band also features trumpeter Graeme Flowers, tenorist/flautist Jamie Michael Harris, bassist Gareth Huw Davies and drummer Thierry Deneux. - Time Out

Song Without Words (Inpartmaint 2008)

Dan Ecclestone's music has developed from his early experiences scoring low-budget movies whilst still at school, songwriting from behind a guitar with New Wave fraudsters Leisure, and then orchestrating West End musicals. Unable to really explain the sound, he cites in his defence a strange mix of influences. The early prog-rock nonsense of Peter Gabriel's Genesis informs the structure of his work, whilst a life-affirming role playing piano in Steve Reich's Eight Lines left him exploring minimalism in his early experiments in loop-based electronica.

Since being invited by Worldwide DJ Gilles Peterson to bring a ten-piece band to the stage in 2006, he honed gradually down to a quintet, and now plays alongside some in-demand players from the world of jazz and the avant garde.

The debut album was released in Japan last year and received national airplay in Britain and across Europe. Since then the band have started working with a film-maker/VJ, developing a series of projections for the live show. Although central to the notion of cinematica, this should also angle the band towards club audiences, widening the appeal.
