The Letter

Written By: Dan Fluegel

Dear Mom and Dad,
I'm ready to soar
I'm gonna make you proud
in this thing called"War"
I've made a lot of friends
they are just like me
going to fight for
freedom and liberty

What happened last week you will hardly believe
We had eaten our dinner just starting to leave
someone ran and then a loud noise
I felt something heavy we lost twelve more boys

Sadness abounds as we continue our quest
I've written you a letter in the pocket of my vest
I'll mail it today after we finish our mission
War seems so senseless yet no one will listen

I'm needing to tell you
what happened today
in a recgniscent mission that blew us away
we fought on the front
with all of our might
I lost three more friends and
they say it's alright

Sadness abounds as we continue our quest
I've written you a letter in the pocket of my vest
I'll mail it today after we finish our mission
War seems so senseless yet no one will listen

Another day in battle I didn't see it comin'
A civilian looking scared and towards us came a running
We pulled him to safety, fleeing from the fire
He reached in his jacket and pulled on a wire

Dear Mom and Dad
If you're reading this letter
It came from my vest pocket
inside of my leather
I hope you are proud of me
I ask of you no more
Sorry to die in this thing...
called "War"

A King's Lament

Written By: Dan Fluegel

I don't mind if the sun don't set in Texas
I don't mind if Murphey lays down the law
If I try, I'll make the ridge by morning
If I do, I ain't never going back to you
Even though my life will never be the same
I can stand without you,I can stand without you
You let me down so many times before
And with your hands around my neck I couldn't breath
You left me lying face down on the floor
I don't mind if the sun don't set in Texas
I don't mind if Murphey lays down the law
Cause if I try, I'll make the ridge by morning
And if I do I ain't never coming back to you
I pryed the shackles free so I could leave you
It nearly took my life to do me so
(A changed man) A changed man I finally roam freely
(Without a fix) Without a fix to drive me down the road
REFRAIN:

The Poet

Written By: Dan Fluegel

I dreamed of being a writer girl, you knew that from our start
You told me it was a beautiful and creative art
We expressed our dreams, simple and grand
our love went together, it walked hand in hand
You told me you'd love me as I am
Hard times came and you refused to understand
You left me for gold, standing in the cold
And for the reasons you've shown, my love has flown
As time passed your love reached its peak
And in my hands it drained, softly it leaked
You logic for leaving was"pointless poetry"
You said " Man can't live on dreams, so let it be"
But you told me you'd love me as I am
And hard times came, and you refused to understand
You left me for gold, standing in the cold
And for the reasons you've shown
my love has flown
I know it's a dream, might never come true
Your reasons for leaving were a selfish point of view
I guess I'll be on my way saddened, heartbroken
You've found a man who's wealth has spoken
But you told me you'd love me as I am
And hard times came and you refused to understand
You left me for gold, standing in the cold
And for reasons you've shown my love has flown
I'll keep on writing poetry 'till I die
It's what I like to do, it's like dreaming in July
If someone comes to my door handing me fame
Don't come crying at my door in shame
'Cause you told me you'd love me as I am
But hard times came and you refused to understand
You left me for gold, standing in the cold
And for reasons you've shown, my love has flown

What is love?

Written By: Dan Fluegel

The moonlight shines across your skin
Blue painted shadows cast your body like a sculptor
The eternal moment is captured in your eyes
But nothing's gonna harm us now
What is love, besides a heartbeat
A moment stolen from the clock of time
What is love, but a flamin' kiss
That sears a memory on a night like this
A lover's hope, springs eternal
We all seek something that we can't find
concrete will crumble and tears will fade
but nothing's gonna harm us now
What is love but an ancient longing
A struggle to uncover a dream in the mist
What is love, but a gravity from the inside
that pulls us together, on a night like this
A pioneer across the landscape of your body
When you find a kindred spirit, don't be afraid to hold on tight
White hot fusion of spirit and passion
transcends the flesh, on a night like this
What is love, but an answered prayer
Watching you breathe, as you're lying there
What is love, but a voice to my soul
A feeling beyond all control
What is love besides a heartbeat
A moment stolen from the clock of time
What is love but a flamin' kiss
That sears a memory, on a night like this.
