Biography

“The Steven Spielberg of Boston Hip Hop!”, “A refreshing perspective” are some of the quotes used to describe Daniel Laurent also known as DL regarding his heartfelt, thought provoking music.

His debut cd was recorded in two sessions of 3 hrs each and spawned his most successful song to date “MASSterpiece (The Anthem)”, which went on to become the most requested single by a local or national artist according to WERS 88.9FM. It also got significant airplay on Hot 97.7, Jamn 94.5 as well as other college radio stations in the New England region. The momentum continued when XM Satellite radio picked it up and added it to their “The City” radio channel generating interest in other markets.

DL has performed all throughout Boston, booking colleges, generating mini tours in NH, performing at various clubs in New York City as well as even doing an impromptu performance with a live band for Ms. Janice Combs (Sean Combs mother) for her birthday celebration.

Writing his own treatments and being very instrumental in his video making process has made some very interesting and buzzworthy videos. He chooses to go against the grain with the normal imaging and instead chooses dramatic or comedic visuals to help illustrate his storylines.

DL formed Self Made Entertainment to provide his own vehicle to release his own media unapologetic and without red tape. He has since went on to release and/or help facilitate 3 albums, 1 cd/dvd combo, a 12” single, an exclusive digital only album, 5 videos, 4 independent films, 1 soundtrack, an online blog about everything Hip Hop in Boston (music, nightlife, shows, apparel), the very successful venture of MASSterpiece Radio (internet radio that garnered 20k unique listeners each week and peaked at 50k).  With being featured on over 20 artists’ feature albums, compilations and mixtapes, DL is determined to triple his drive by years end.

He just released his newest release “Hustler’s Spirit: The Idea” and has already shot 4 videos and will be shooting a fifth video by years end. Lead by “MASSterpiece 2.0”, DL is returning to the same grind and tenacity that garnered him attention in the first place. The song is homage to his hometown and all that is has to offer from the films and television shows to educational institutions and hometown heroes. “I am known for the Boston song and this was grandest finale of that chapter.”

Lyrics

Gotta Do

Written By: Daniel Laurent Davis

Riding through my city yo, in my prime with my rhymes feeling like biggie yo, bout to shoot a video, youtube million views, bring back arsenio/ when will you clowns learn, fuck with me, i whip you ass like wide turns/ 3 point parking, headshots, line em up, shout out to Lawsons/ on the Mic I'm commiting arson, Jesus discipline disciples delicately is flawless/ looking for a skeeo that is gorgeous/ I'm talking gallardos, mazardi and porsches/lace fronts make me nauseous/ talking to one at night with shades I'm cautious/ constantly shining with these hits, tryna make these chips, and enlighten my wrist/

Im just doing what i gotta, im just doing what i gotta do, repeat, fuck about you im just doing what i gotta do

Now back to angry people bunny rabbit ears but the revolution will be TiVo/ I'm back and what they missing/ you lacking what they itchin, i'm crack like slades chicken/ hot sauce therapy/ ghost pepper business and loyalty is the specialty/ how many times must I say it, simple how many times our djs gon play it/ I stand for the firm, one way or another imma get my turn/ and when it happens...shhheeeat, mayor Davis in this bitttccchhhh/ In the club we dont do the Harlem shake or the stanky leg, we step like this/ my motto is simple, roll or be trampled in the streets where you sit

Chorus

I don’t make snap records, I snap on records to bring it back to the start like my breakfast/ Oj and kale omelets, listening to my peers, finger gag, excess vomit/ Feel like a martian, that fell right off of a comet/ Im hopeful to take it global with heartfelt poems that are honest/ Try that on like used socks/ Never put me inside of your small box/ You play me now, its gonna be triple the price, when its right for me, bad for you dog watch/ Karma is the sweetest juices/ freshly squeezed indeed sip for toothless/ I'm bringing back that rawness and truth in my audio serum similar to ruthless/ I'm just doing what I gotta, give a fuck anymore time waits for nada
