Bio
Daniel Ray Scott is an original songwriter, musician, and vocalist from Austin, TX. Strongly influenced by the 60’s, 70’s musical movement, you’ll hear influences such as Cat Stevens, Neil Young, Tom Petty, and Dylan in his work. His fast vibrato and syrupy croon is unique and he pens lyrics over themes such as romance, mental illness, as well as themes of social injustice.
Like one of his heroes, Brian Wilson (from the Beach Boys), Daniel Ray Scott is functionally deaf in his right ear, having undergone 13 surgeries during childhood. Daniel Ray Scott started learning guitar in South Africa at the age of 12 where he says his father would wait outside in the car with the key in the ignition because of repeated gun hijackings at the teacher’s residence.
His mother was his first musical teacher and taught him how to sing, introducing him to harmony and South African groups such as Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Miriam Makeba. She also got him his first Cat Stevens album and ‘Wild World’ was the first song Daniel learned on the guitar.
Daniel resides in Denver, Colorado where he has been a Colorado Solo Awards Nominee and a Showcase Tour nominee. He has been a guest on Out of the Garage podcast in Chicago, been interviewed by Scapi Magazine, and performed at venues such as The Walnut Room, Barfly, and Redline Tap. Currently, he is producing an EP which include originals such as: ‘Tomcat Queen,’ ‘Santa Fe,’ ‘Georgia,’ and ‘She Takes on to Me.’
