"Metronome Magazine"

Daniel Barrett is one of the local scene's rising singer-songwriter-guitarists that displays his penchant for a country styled blues rock form that oozes with tradition, soul, and ingenuity. He's got a gutsy voice that shines through these cuts while his guitar work is tastful and unpretentious. - Douglas Sloan

Bio

Daniel Barrett's songs bridge the space between swamp and city. His writing takes cues from country/folk songwriters such as Townes Van Zandt and Lyle Lovett, the sensitive psychedelia of Jeff Buckley, and the Pixies' endearing skew. Twenty-five years old and based in Boston, Daniel sings about love, folks in trouble, and folks redeemed.

He's hard at work on "Shadows," his first full length album. The album was recorded and mixed by W.C. Handy Award winning producer/engineer Chris Rival. Musicians on the album include violinist Casey Driessen (Steve Earle), guitarist Duke Levine (the Story, Mary Chapin- Carpenter), steel guitarist Greg McMullen (Chris Whitley, The Bentmen), bassist Mike Rivard (the Story, Morphine, Club D'Elf), drummers Kenwood Dennard (Sting, The Gil Evans Orchestra, Maceo Parker), John Sands (Aimee Mann), Billy Beard (Patty Griffin, Kim Richey) and many more.

Daniel Barrett's emergence as a singer-songwriter builds on a foundation as a sideman and producer for various Boston artists and bands. Notable is his tenure with long standing world folkers Hypnotic Clambake. He co-produced, sang, and played guitar on Kristin Cifelli's Boston Music Award nominated debut CD, "Silver Bowl." He produced singer-songwriter Nate Borofsky's latest CD, "Never Enough Time". His electric guitar work and vocals can be heard on folk-rocker Adrianne's Boston Music Award winning CD, "For Adeline."

Daniel has toured the US playing venues from coast to coast. Peter Yarrow from Peter, Paul, & Mary heard Daniel's guitar work at the Kerville Folk Festival in Texas and invited he and his bandmates to perform on the Mainstage. Peter also included footage of the band in Peter, Paul, & Mary's "Lifelines" TV special. He can be heard solo and with full band at hometown Boston/Cambridge venues such as Club Passim, The Middle East, The Kendall Cafe, Toad, and the Lizard Lounge. Look for a US tour upon release of "Shadows."
