“I have to admit that I really did love this record and can see Strange Things living in my stereo for the near future. With complete respect to Daniel Dawes, I can honestly say there was not a single low point on the entire record. If you like Brit-pop, or catchy rock, you simply need to hear this album” - Nick Kays, The Dwarf.com, 29 April 2009

Bio

Daniel Dawes performed in various bands throughout the later part of the 1990’s while at university, and in 2001 became a founding member of Sydney based psych-rock outfit The Winters, a band for whom he put in almost seven years of loyal service as songwriter, vocalist and guitarist. In late 2006/early 2007 he tested the water with a string of solo shows, a move that led to the recording of a debut album “Strange Things” in 2008/09.

Upon its release via Foghorn Records/MGM in March 2009, “Strange Things” received its fair share of critical acclaim. Reviewers noted the following:

“I have to admit that I really did love this record and can see Strange Things living in my stereo for the near future. With complete respect to Daniel Dawes, I can honestly say there was not a single low point on the entire record. If you like Brit-pop, or catchy rock, you simply need to hear this album” (Nick Kays, The Dwarf.com, 29 April 2009).

“Fantastically quirky melodies and he manages to fit a lot of words in without getting into a verbal traffic jam” (Vijay Khurana, triple j, April 2009).

“Dawes’ solo album has a distinct British feel, while remaining true to his Aussie rock sound” (The Sunday Telegraph, 5 April 2009).

Tracks from the “Strange Things” album received strong support from radio, with regular plays on Triple J, 3RRR, and Fbi, including an interview on Fbi radio’s Victoria Sweetie Zamora’s afternoon show on which Dawes performed album track “High Place” live to air.

In addition to support from radio, the ABC’s “Rage” selected the film clip for the album’s title track as “Indie of the Week” (5 September 2009) which saw the clip aired in several prime timeslots on national television.

In the wake of his album’s growing momentum, Dawes performed along side Ronan Keating, Cassie Davis, Jessica Mauboy, and Wes Carr as part of Australian Record Store Day (18 April 2009).

Album track “Strange Things” was selected for inclusion on the compilation “Grow Your Own Upload 3”. Another album track, “Remember You Well” was included on the popular “Sounds Like Café” series. Both albums were released in late 2009 and are available via Foghorn Records.

Daniel Dawes’ album “Strange Things” is available in stores and via iTunes through Foghorn Records. Dawes is currently recording an EP due for release in October 2010.
