"Music Firebrand Top Pops"

Reclusive superstar Prince recently returned to the spotlight, nailing an eight-minute set on “Saturday Night Live,” which included “Purple Rain,” “1999” and “Let’s Go Crazy.”

But accomplished singer/songwriter Danielia Cotton proved she was no pretender Thursday night when she closed out a fiery “guitar charged” showcase at Carroll Place in NYC with “Purple Rain.”

While the song isn’t part of her latest album, “The Real Book” features 12 covers, including Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter” and Steve Winwood’s “Can’t Find My Way Home.”

At the Greenwich Village music spot, she masterfully worked her way through the two of those – along with poking some fun at Bruno Mars and knocking out his “Gorilla.”

One reviewer says Danielia’s voice “calls to mind both Janis Joplin and Etta James,” while another says she “has the potential to breathe some classics new life for a next-generation listener.”

There’s no question the 56-year-old musician known formerly as Prince Rogers Nelson of Minneapolis, Minn., would agree - National Enquirer

    Bio

Danielia Cotton is a fiery blues-rock artist who doesn't like comparisons. Although, with the release of her debut disc, she was earning them with such titans as Tina Turner, Janis Joplin, and the Rolling Stones. Cotton, according to a mounting pile of press materials, grew up in rural Hopewell, NJ, as one of only seven black children at the local high school -- thus the title of her first full length album, Small White Town.
