"NCM's Cheat Sheet Of Buzz Bands To Catch At CMF"

Groovy soul, delivered with fantastic panache. Full disclosure: I might be biased as a friend, but I truly believe Daniella is the real deal. - by David Farrell

"New Music: Daniella Watters"

Name: Daniella Watters

WBD: What inspired you to start singing & how did you get started?

I began singing when I could talk. I always loved belting out tunes. I got involved in musical theatre at age 8 and started lessons when I was 7. My biggest influences as a child were Mariah Carey, Tracy Chapman, Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston, and Celine Dion.

WBD: Describe your sound in 3 words.

Soulful, funky, fresh.

WBD: What has one of your greatest accomplishments been so far in your career?

Winning Street Idol at Canadian Music Week this year. The award is one free month of radio promotion for one of my songs, music video submission to the major stations, and my own personal iPhone app! It’s pretty exciting!

WBD: What’s your favorite part about performing live.

Getting to play around with arrangements and try new approaches to the song that wasn’t recorded or performed the last time. It’s fun to keep things fresh. It’s also great to perform with a live band so everyone can solo and get into the groove.

Bio

Daniella Watters is a singer/songwriter and from Toronto who regularly plays around the GTA. She released her self titled EP during the summer after she won RDR Music Group's Street Idol Award at CMW 2012. With this award she was able to land 7 radio placements for her single \"Missing My Love\", her own iPhone app, and a radio interview and performance on 103.9 Proud FM. This past fall she was featured on Rogers TV and has received several CBC features since her release of her EP. During the summer Daniella produced her music video for Missing My Love and connected with multiplatinum producer Shawn Mckenzie of Reverb Music Group. Since then they have partnered and have been creating her second EP,which has a r&b, soul, pop influence, and is expected to be released Spring 2013!

Well that was a touch of what's going on now... But here's where it all started....:)
As a young child Daniella Watters always took interest in singing and dance. When she was seven years old her parents noticed her passion for singing and enrolled her into vocal lessons and musical theatre. Daniella recorded her first song, “Teddy Bear” by Elvis Presley, when she was eleven years old. At age twelve she joined her first girl group and gained more experience in the studio. By age fourteen she was one of the three members of a pop girl group called “Untamed”. Untamed recorded a full length CD and toured all around Canada and parts of the U.S (Las Vegas, New York, Hawaii). Some of Untamed’s accomplishments include a performance for over 10,000 girl guides at the Skydome in Toronto, and performing the National Anthem in New York for the NY Yankees and the Mets, and reaching #4 on the Kiss 92’s top 10 charts for “You’re Not Going to Score”. At age fifteen, Daniella wrote the song “Go All Out” for Untamed’s first album entitled “Go All Out”. Untamed had a couple songs on the radio and filmed two music videos for their songs “You’re Not Gonna Score” and “Nothing in This World”. During the same year Daniella presented an award at the Kiss 92 Fanny Awards at the Air Canada Centre. Untamed began taking control of the writing process on their second album, but after recording the first three songs for this album Untamed broke up. By this time Daniella was seventeen years old and she was temporarily turned off from the music industry after the disband drama. She continued to write music and writing became a therapeutic activity for her. Between the ages of seventeen and twenty she continued to perform in musical theatre shows and her love for the art never disappeared. In December 2011, Daniella played Velma, the vaudevillian in “Chicago” with City Youth Players where she excelled in singing Jazz inspired music.

Even though Daniella put music aside temporarily she began to feel a serious itch for music, so she decided to gear her energy back towards it. She began collaborating with other musicians recreationally until she began creating some distinctive music. In 2009 she formed a funk rock band called Daytime Theft, which performed with around the General Toronto Area. Daytime Theft played original music around the GTA and won an honourable mention from the Billboard Songwriting Contest for their song “Watch Your Mouth (Words)” in 2010.

All the while, while attending York University for Psychology, Daniella took all of her electives in music and developed a strong passion for Jazz, R&B, and Blues. Her love for Jazz, Blues, Soul, and R&B grew so much that she began writing music inspired from these genres during the summer of 2010. In July of 2010 she performed as a guest at a Toronto Jazz Festival performance and recorded her favourite Jazz Blues tune, “Feeling Good” originally sung by Nina Simone, one of her Jazz inspirations.

For the last few years Daniella has performed regularly around the GTA with several bands ranging from covers with her own creative adaption and originals. She collaborates with many other talented artists writing originals for herself and also with the with the intention of acquiring placements with other emerging artists and in TV/Film.

Daniella’s love for music has a beginning, but no end. Music is the one consistent element in her life that will never fade. She involves music in her life in every way possible, whether it’s performing with a band or in a play, writing originals or rearranging covers, listening at a concert, or collaborating with other talented musicians, Daniella is going full force incorporating music into her life for good!
