Give me a quirky guitar line with a beautiful voice and I can guarantee my undivided attention for at least one song. "Monster" sold me on newcomer Danielle Durack, and luckily her songwriting style in combination with her voice makes her entire new record Bonnie Rose completely engaging. It's definitely the first proper "spring" album that meets my soul with the season. The video is home videos or posed home videos and studio clips, but it's got the same beautiful vibe the song has, as well as a comfortable sense of well-being despite the song's title. The music here is simply divine with a sound that comes off as simple at first, but reveals depth and intricacy upon later listens and closer inspections. As much indie folk as it could be baroque pop, Danielle Durack is a relatively new talent that your ears really need to get to know. - Mitchell Hillman
The singer-songwriter went into the recording process for the album she’s releasing without a particular sound in mind, but it mostly turned into a collection of piano-driven pop songs.
“They all started, as most of my songs do, as skeletal acoustic songs on guitar or piano,” Durack says. “Then I brought in the help of some very talented friends whom I met while at Saguaro High School, in the choir program. They each had free reign on writing their individual parts. We ended up recording the album in a home studio setup at a cabin in Munds Park over the course of one week. Seven musicians in total graciously agreed to drive up from Phoenix, some for a day, some for a week, and we all got to work. All in all it was seven 12-to-14-hour-days of nothing but recording. It was incredible. I couldn’t be happier with the way the record turned out, and I have to say that is was definitely a collaborative effort.”
Durack credits her recording engineer, Nick Tantillo, and “the combined genius of the seven musicians who played with me” for making the album what it is. “I wrote the songs,” she says, “but they really brought them to life.”
She’s joined at her release show by the Edisons and Cam Knouse. - Ed Masley

THE ARTIST EXPLAINS: DANIELLE DURACK - 'SAN FRANCISCO' (VIDEO)
Phoenix singer-songwriter Danielle Durack speaks to us about the music video for her newest single, 'San Francisco'.
'San Francisco' is the emotive opening track from Danielle Durack’s self-released debut album, 'Bonnie Rose', which hit record stores and streaming services in March.
Durack directed and edited the video in DIY fashion, enlisting the help of her videographer friends Sean Logan and Brian Bossert, in addition to some friends from Arizona State University’s dance program. With little as far as budget to work with, Durack made use of a Phoenix-area Airbnb, rearranging the place at will to fit her vision. Also featuring footage from Downtown Tempe, 'San Francisco' seamlessly weaves interpretive dance and performance footage into a compelling visual story. - Karla Harris

Bio
Danielle Durack is an American singer-songwriter based out of Phoenix, Arizona. Often compared to the likes of Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson, Durack displays a surprising candidness in her songwriting. Her lyrics are honest and confessional, and sonically, her music shows off a knack for subtly infectious hooks and a commanding, yet vulnerable voice. Durack released her debut album, Bonnie Rose, in March of 2017, which was largely made up of piano-driven pop songs. The anticipated sophomore album is set to release in late 2018, featuring a new taste of indie pop. The album, entitled Bashful, is an emotive collection of 7 songs that explores themes of perseverance, love, and growth.
