""few artists that make the same vocal impact as Gasparro..."

Danielle Gasparro is a New Yorker. There's no hiding it. It's a city with it's own attitude and Danielle is infused with it. It gives her a different relationship with the audience and I was wondering how the genteel south coast, predominently English folk would react? The simple answer, it didn't matter.

The pre-first song ramble sort of emphasises the cultural difference, but as soon as the singing started, Gasparro expressed herself just fine. She's got a powerful voice and perfect control over it. It hits the back of the room like a jackhammer, full of strength and energy, but with such percision.

At first there's a couple of issues with the keyboard, it's a borrowed instrument and Danielle hasn't had as much rehearsal time with it as she'd like. By half way through the set, she's shown it whose boss and by the time Chris Simmons returns to help her close her set, she's got it in a sweet spot.

There are few artists that make the same vocal impact as Gasparro. There's a cliche about some artsists being able to sing a telephone directory and make it sound interesting, she falls into that select band. That those vocals get to be used around well thought out and constructed songs is a real bonus.

New York City based performing songwriter Danielle Gasparro does not sing a word she doesn’t mean. With a modern sound and style that seamlessly blends elements of pop and jazz, this compelling artist somehow reminds us of Carmen McRae, Joni Mitchell, Carole King and Laura Nyro, all at the same time. Perhaps it’s because she began her career as a jazz vocalist, and came to discover her original voice through years of interpreting the classics. Perhaps it's because she has an innate gift for writing classically beautiful songs. Or perhaps it's because, like those classic artists, she presents us with her thoughts and emotions while soulfully embodying the music she sings.

Likely, it's all of those reasons and more that one finds themselves riveted by Danielle's musical style and grace. But for sure, is is through her unique and deeply expressive voice alone that this sentient chanteuse pulls listeners into her poetic legion of songs, and it is through this same vocal radiance, that she keeps them there. Danielle’s live performances, deemed "engaging and inspiring, not to be missed" (Indie Sounds NY), showcase the singer's rare gift for not only driving her voice and soul deep inside of a song, but for taking the entire audience along for the ride.

Career highlights include the recording of her 2006 EP, "Big Movie Screen", for which Danielle had the opportunity to work with Grammy Award-winning producer and engineer Jay Newland (Norah Jones, Etta James, Richie Havens), and her participation in two 2007 songwriting retreats hosted by renowned singer-songwriter Chris Difford, of the UK band Squeeze.

2008 brought about several exciting ventures for this impassioned artist: the release of her third studio recording "birdsong"; her debut touring in both the US and UK; her appearance at Steel Bridge SongFest, the annual Midwest music and songwriting festival headlined by Jackson Browne; alignment as a songwriter with LA-based publishing firm Yes, Dear Entertainment; notable national radio airplay on Boston's esteemed WGBH FM; and her dual-role as both host and producer of "Second Sundays", the live artist interview and performance series held monthly in New York City's beloved listening room, Rockwood Music Hall.

After years of performing with a world-class band, Danielle began accompanying herself more frequently in 2008, and began paring down her live show to an inspired duo setting with long-time collaborator, guitarist Ryan Scott. By the summer of 2009, Danielle felt she was nearing a musical milestone as a solo performer, and developed a deep longing for more time and space to write and play the piano than her busy life in New York would permit. Ever one to follow her bliss, the songstress decided to trade in the fast-paced hustles of the city and the music business for a slow waltz with creativity. Setting forth on a year-long sabbatical, Danielle headed for the sleepy south where she set up shop under a banana tree to focus on artistic growth. With inspiration at the helm, Danielle also brought her performing focus to the unique and thoughtful world of house concerts. She is currently in the spirited throws of her "Song Sweet Song" house concert tour, an independent, grass-roots endeavor which has her sharing her songs and voice with avid music lovers in warm and intimate settings throughout the U.S.

With songs that defy genre but feel classic, a voice that “paints Picassos” (JAM Magazine), and a live performance which captures both heart and mind, Danielle Gasparro has established herself as not only a dynamic original artist, but one worth keeping your eyes, and ears, on. "What a voice. I swear you could just listen to it for hours and hours." (Pulse Rated UK)
