""The Road Rises timeless and true" - Daily Freeman"

Danielle Talamini's 'The Road Rises' timeless and true
By David Malachoski, Reviewer
03/07/2008

ARTIST: Danielle Talamini
ALBUM: "The Road Rises"

With a yearning, aching and dusty dirt-road voice, you'd expect Danielle Talamini to come from Tennessee or Alabama, but no, she hails from the back roads of ... Staten Island!

She calls her music "country for city kids," and she may be on to something there. Danielle might have a New York City address, but she is more country than most of the sound alike singers in Nashvegas these days. And if you listen to her compelling new CD "The Road Rises," you'd swear her address was Route 66, U.S.A.

Talamini is playing all the trendy hotspots: Rockwood Music Hall, Café Vivaldi, Bitter End, etc. And she may hail from Staten Island but there is an underlying Southern sensibility in everything she does, and though you can't put your finger on in, Talamini is inherently county.

"The Road Rises" was recorded in Austin by Dwight A. Baker (Clarkson, Heart) and from the expansive "Save Me," the empowering and peppy "Pack My Bags," the haunting "Already Gone," (a tale of love gone gone) and the driving title track "The Road Rises," Talamini sings in a way you haven't heard before, but want to hear again - a voice vulnerable, yet confident, sultry and strong, with breathy, understated phrasing to die for.

Stocked with literate lyrics and clever melodies, "The Road Rises" echoes Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" with its endless highways and horizons, and the promise of just what you've been looking for lurking right around the bend.

Timeless and true, full of grace and gravity, "the Road Rises" is done right, for the right reasons. The road more traveled you might say.

""Incredibly beautiful voice...exquisite songs..." - CTRL.ALT.COUNTRY"

DANIELLE TALAMINI "The Road Rises" (released at her own expense!)
(3.5****)

She looks fantastic and has an incredibly beautiful voice that vaguely reminds you of Patty Griffin. But above all, she writes exquisite songs. That is Danielle Talamini in a nutshell: an exceptionally promising new singer song writer from New York who traveled all the way to Texas to record her debut album "The Road Rises". And Texas is where she belongs much more if you listen to her maiden production. Talamini's forte seem to be fine "rootsy" songs which can belong to alternative country, Americana or roots rock. On her debut record she presents ten such songs produced by Dwight A. Baker. Most of these are ballads that show her gigantic new talent. Almost immediately you think about Patty Griffin, Maria McKee, Joy Lynn White: all of them strong women with the same passion, the same warm glow, the same big heart… And this is meant to be a real compliment. This Talamini is definitely here for the long run. Someone who has maiden release material like the "deluxe" roots rocker "Pack My Bags" or the soulful memory engraving "Save Me" should not fear the future. And we did not even mention the truly killer song "Mercury Running" yet, that burns a hole into your heart like a simmering cigarette on a carpet! - CTRL.ALT.COUNTRY

“The first thing that struck this reviewer was the voice, strong, soulful and expressive. But far more importantly her lyrics are serious, intelligent and literate...dark, brooding, hard hitting. There are no bubbles, no saccharine in what she writes. In Talamini we have a writer whose concerns go far deeper than merely wanting to know Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under. The Road Rises is not what one would expect from a country album. It cannot simply be played as background music. In order to fully appreciate the strength of the writing, it needs to be listened to intently.”

She calls her music “country for city kids,” and she may be on to something there. Danielle might have a New York City address, but she is more country than most headed to Nashvegas these days. And if you listen to her compelling new CD “The Road Rises,” you’d swear her address was Route 66, USA.

She was born well north of the Mason-Dixon line in Brooklyn, NY, but there is an underlying Southern sensibility in everything she does, and though you can’t put your finger on it, Talamini is inherently country.

The timeless American music of three generations informs Talamini’s work, from founding father Hank Williams and Outlaw country heroes Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings, to the classic roots rock of the Allman Brothers Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Band and Creedence Clearwater Revival, as well as musical descendants such as Ryan Adams, Lucinda Williams and Patty Griffin.

The Road Rises was recorded in Austin, Texas by Dwight A. Baker (Brandi Carlile, Heart, Kelly Clarkson, Trish Murphy, Bleu Edmondson) and from the expansive “Save Me,” empowering and peppy “Pack My Bags,” haunting “Already Gone,” and dirt road driving title
