Daniel White

Daniel White was born in a small town outside of Philadelphia. He was exposed to Bach, Beethoven and Motown recordings at an early age. Tinkering with the piano for several years led to a fascination with sound that resulted in trumpet lessons, an acoustic guitar, and a all-encompassing aesthetic of music. While still in his teens, Daniel performed 19th century brass music, which led to a burgeoning interest in jazz and other improvised styles of music. He played on the jazz scene for several years in Philadelphia before attending school in Boston. It was at this time that he experienced the revelation of short prose and broadside songs.

While absorbing all of the music he could hear, he began to compose short pieces and stories in song form. Long walks through the city in the dead of night provided the the space he needed to formulate his works. After school, he traveled across the country, stopping in Asheville, North Carolina; Austin, Texas; and Santa Cruz, California. He stayed in Santa Cruz for several months, working when he could find jobs and sleeping indoors when he could stand it. The solitude of the hills of Felton provided the perfect environment to craft preliminary sketches of his diverse repertoire of originals and cover songs.

Currently, Daniel is performing in clubs on the East Coast (Philadelphia and New York City) and in Chicago as well as venues abroad in Amsterdam and Israel.

He will release a new EP "The Moonlight Madrigals" in late May 2014.
