"Detroit’s own Daniel Young walks away as “Two time Award Winner” at the Rhythm of Gospel Awards"

Detroit, MI—Daniel Young of Daniel Young Music Ministry was named Independent Artist of the year and took home the Contemporary Album of the year award for his sophomore project “Surrender” at the 2009 Rhythm of Gospel Awards held at the convention center in Pine Bluff, Arkansas on July 12th. Daniel Young’s high energy performance of “We’ve Come to Give God Praise” was one of the most electrifying of the spiritually charged ceremony.
Daniel is a singer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and minister. He is the multi-talented front-man of The Daniel Young Music Ministry (formed in 2006). Daniel has taken the Detroit Gospel music scene by storm, and is now branching out across the nation. In 2006 he launched his solo debut with the release “Let You Know” which had two chart topping singles on Detroit’s Gospel Radio Top 20 Countdown. Now with his sophomore release “Surrender” featuring his band of musicians and singers, personal lyrics accompanied by a mix of classic R&B with urban beats, this pioneer of R&P (Rhythm and Praise) will surely be around for years to come.

Detroit’s Daniel Young may be an independent artist today, but he’s most assuredly a major label talent.

Surrender, the sophomore release by the Daniel Young Music Ministry, is well nigh flawless. This fresh, young singer/songwriter and his combo of well-honed musicians deliver one energetic song after another, each crackling with crisp arrangements, strong pacing, expressive singing and skilled musicianship.

I can’t say enough good things about this project. From “Praise,” which opens with a quick-step interlude that riffs on the congregational rouser, “Praise Him,” to “Don’t Leave,” a lovely praise and worship ballad about the Rapture, the album never drags, never slows, never disappoints, and leaves the listener wanting more.

Surrender confirms Young’s acknowledgement that the mighty production team PAJAM is among his musical influences, as many of the tracks chug along with J Moss flash and swagger. The close and sometimes complex harmonies sung by the background vocalists speak to Young’s fealty to the Winans and Take Six.

Lest one think that Surrender is all sound and no substance, sound Biblical references and stories are peppered throughout the praise and worship lyrics. Young calls what he does “rhythm and praise,” and both are ladled out in equal measures.

The most conventionally gospel-sounding of the album’s fourteen tracks, and the most radio friendly, is the bluesy, quartet-style “I’m So In Love with Jesus.” The song showcases a duet between Young and a fine gospel singer, Tamela Hunt. Immediately following, “I Give” finds Young balladeering with the smoothness of an anointed Major Harris.

Young’s first CD, 2006’s Let You Know, produced two singles, “Awesome” and “It’s Mine,” that reached the top of the Detroit gospel countdown. Surrender is poised to move the Daniel Young Music Ministry from a well-kept secret in the Motor City to national recognition. And deservedly so.

Bio

Singer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and minister Daniel Young is the multi-talented front-man of the award winning Daniel Young Music Ministry (DYMM). DYMM was formed in 2006, and has released 3 electrifying CDs since. The most recent release is the much anticipated Alteration. Alteration delivers the epitome of R&P (Rhythm and Praise), a term that Daniel uses that he believes best describes the creative sound that God has placed in his heart to share with the world. Alteration not only epitomizes R&P, but it also gives you a glimpse of Daniel’s expansion into the genre of Contemporary Christian Music. Ultimately, Alteration delivers everything that gospel fans desire, ranging from Traditional Gospel to Contemporary Christian and Praise and Worship. Daniel has taken the Gospel music scene by storm, and has branched out across the nation. First, in 2006 with his solo debut release “Let You Know”, followed by his award winning 2008 release “Surrender”. And now, with his third release entitled “Alteration”, Daniel has become a household name among the ever emerging gospel greats from Detroit City, and has proven that he plans to be around for years to come.

Daniel Young was born on March 6, 1978 in Detroit, Michigan. As a young child, Daniel displayed great musical talent while singing in various churches across Detroit. By the age of 11, Daniel began playing the saxophone, and by age 15, he began playing the piano in his father’s church. Daniel continued in his musical quest and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. In addition to ministering in song, Daniel teaches instrumental music at Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Daniel Young Music Ministry was awarded “Artist of the Year” and took home the “Contemporary Album of the Year” for his sophomore project “Surrender” at the 2009 Rhythm of Gospel Awards. Daniel Young’s high energy performance of “We’ve Come to Give God Praise” was one of the most electrifying of the spiritually charged ceremony.

Daniel’s influences streams from a long list of gospel favorites, such as The Winans, The Clark Sisters, Commissioned, Take 6, The Williams Brothers, and The Mighty Clouds of Joy. Daniel was also heavily influenced by his father, as he watched is father rehearsing weekly with a gospel quartet (The Emmanuels).

Not only is Daniel paving his way to new levels in gospel music, but he is also a preacher and teacher of the Word of God. He began preaching and teaching at the age of 20. By the age of 24, he served as Assistant Pastor at Restoration Church in Detroit, until joining with his brother at New Vision Cathedral of Praise in 2005. Daniel now serves as Minister of Music and Auxillary Pastor at Kadesh Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan under the leadership of Bishop Gregory Foster, Sr.

In addition to all the other tasks that Daniel has set out to achieve, he is also a loving and devoted husband and father of three children. When not rehearsing, writing, producing, or ministering, Daniel loves to spend time with his family.
