Rocking Chair

Written By: dan mackenzie

it’s one of those
it’s one of those days
it’s a lazy afternoon
and I suppose there must be
infinite ways
we could play that same old tune

fall back on me
I’m not going anywhere
you can fall back on me
I’m a rocking chair
I’m not going anywhere

it’s one of those
it’s one of those nights
that only happen in june
Heaven knows
we should be turning off the lights
and howling at the moon

fall back on me
I’m defying gravity
you can fall back on me
I’m a rocking chair
I’m not going anywhere

you don’t see that you are already home
when you’re near me
you don’t need to be forever alone
alone

it’s one of those
it’s one of those days

fall back on me
I’m not going anywhere
you can fall back on me
I’m a rocking chair
I’m not going anywhere

Feet

Written By: Daniel T. Mackenzie

FEET

When I learned this lesson I was just a up
Life sometimes ‘ll trip you up
And kick you when you’re down

And there’s no retribution , no regret
No blame no shame no guilt
Just get yourself up off the ground

Pick yourself up
Brush yourself off
Everyone falls get back on your feet again
Move it along
You’re blocking the street
Get up get back on your feet
Get back on your feet

Some things are sacred
Some things are profane
You gotta do what you gotta do
Simple and plain
You wonder
“Who are my enemies?
Who are my friends?”
But sometimes it just depends

Pick yourself up
Brush yourself off
Everyone falls get back on your feet again
You wanna win?
You gotta compete
Get up get back on your feet
Get back on your feet

You can’t just sit there contemplating
How you got knocked off your feet
You can waste your whole life vainly waiting
Get back up on your feet

Pick yourself up
Brush yourself off
Everyone falls get back on your feet again
Move it along
You’re blocking the street
Get up get back on your feet

Pick yourself up
Brush yourself off
Everyone falls get back on your feet again
There’s no turning back
Don’t ever retreat
Get up
Get back on your feet

The Universe Is a Great Big Place

Written By: Daniel T. Mackenzie

The Universe is a Great Big Place

On the train into the city
I was too upset to read
Met a girl and she was pretty much
Exactly what I needed
But I’m still too hurt to flirt
I can’t deny what I’m feeling
I can’t lie
I’m still reeling from you

The universe is a great big place
Hope I get to see your face again
Started out as friends
But then within a week or so
You know you know you know…
But now you’re gone without a trace
And the universe is a great big place

On a whim I tried to call you
But your number was no good
Tried again but it was all too clear
That I’d misunderstood you
When you told me
You just needed time away
Cause I never
Heard you say
Forever and a day

The Universe is a great big place
More than plenty time and space
For you to find yourself
Or maybe someone else but tell me
How far will you go?
Till you know you know you know
At least you think your life is blessed
The Universe is a great big mess

But I love it I confess
I believe at least I guess
Anything is possible
But I won’t hold my breath
Till the end
In case I never see you again

The universe is a great big place
Hope I get to see your face again
Someday
Started out as friends
But then a week or two ago
You know you know you know…
But now you’re gone without a trace
And the universe is a great big place…

Let Love In

Written By: Dan Mackenzie

LET LOVE IN

well, it’s no good
living in a big old house alone
the paint’s all chippin’
and her yard is overgrown

it’s no good letting your heart shut down
but she does it when in doubt
with the door locked tight
the shades pulled down
and a sign that says KEEP OUT

let love in
watch the river rise
stars are in your eyes again
let love grow
you’re tangled in the weeds
strangling the seeds you’ve sown

it will never be the same
but maybe better than before
let love in
I’m right outside your door

it’s no use waiting
for a love that will never return
you get a bonfire blazing
and you let the memories burn

there’s no use holding on to something
someone else let go…

let love in
I’m burning up tonight
baby let me light your fuse
let love hurt
no one gets away
everybody pays their dues

the leap is worth the taking
honey, what are you waiting for?
let love in
I’m right outside your door

you have suffered long enough
so, I’ll be out here waiting
until you open up

let love in
watch the river rise
stars are in your eyes again
the whole world is out here with me
wondering where you’ve been
come on baby
let love in

No One Else

Written By: Dan Mackenzie

NO ONE ELSE

so many guys they try to catch my eye
but they don’t get the time of day
once in a while I smile in pity
but mostly I just walk away

no one else compares to you
no, no one can compete

‘cause I see something in you
that I don’t even see inside myself
and I’d be willing to do
whatever pleases you
‘cause I don’t want no one else

who hasn’t had close calls, near misses and
temptations of the flesh and bone?
I’ve had my unfair share of cold kisses
thank you, I would rather freeze alone

no one else deserves me
no, no one else is worthy

but I see something in you
that I don’t even see inside myself
and I’d be willing to prove
that I deserve you too
‘cause I don’t want no one else

to know me
as well as you seem to
no one else knows how to hold me
no one else but you

‘cause you see something in me
that I don’t even see inside myself
and I’d be willing to do
whatever pleases you
cause I don’t want no one else
