"Review Otis Gibbs Support gig 29/09/09"

'First up was local singer-songwriter Danni Nicholls with excellent support during her short set by multi-instumentalist Tim Bidwell, variously on slap bass and mandolin. Danni also accompanied her own beautiful vocals with acoustic guitar, casting her spell over most of the hushed crowd with her exceptional self-penned songs, all sung with heartfelt emotion and in a style not dissimilar to a young Rosanne Cash. Not a comparison made lightly as I’m a huge fan of Rosanne, but I think Danni really can be that good and would be surprised if some of her songs were not taken up by some of the Nashville ‘stars.’ Of highlights, there were plenty but her own Rapunzle, Heavy Shoes and Empty Houses were exceptional as was her reading of Carole King’s Way Over Yonder and Gillian Welch's Wayside/Back in Time. Space dictates the lack of analysis of these mainly self-penned songs but suffice to say they cover many of life’s emotions and with a voice that never seems strained—remember her name!' - Maverick Magazine

"Danni Nicholls @ The Lord Nelson"

Danni is one of the rising stars of the UK acoustic Americana circuit - hardly surprising, given her dynamic performance style. Armed with a batch of her own songs and an eclectic range of covers by the likes of Gillian Welch, Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline, her nifty guitar playing and rich vocals have won her many admirers in her short but burgeoning career. This is set for another lift-off with the release last month of an EP album of her songs, Heavy Shoes.

As if that wasn't impressive enough she is the indefatigable organiser of events at two Brighton venues - Americana Unplugged at The Foundry pub and monthly Hoedowns at The World's End in London Road.

Bio

Brighton’s hardest working sweetheart of the rodeo has been writing and recording original music for nine years. She moved to the city three years ago from Bedfordshire and has been wooing audiences with her original Americana/alt-country ever since.

Pulling on musical references from Johnny, Elvis, Chuck & Dolly to Gillian Welch; Carole King to Chatham County Line, Danni has been invited to support acts as diverse as Angus & Julia Stone, Sinead & The Dawnbreakers, Paul Curreri, Kate Walsh and most recently Otis Gibbs, Eileen Rose and Nell Bryden. She also occasionally plays with London’s mighty Green Rock River Band and Brighton’s The Crucks.

Danni’s shows, whether solo or with trusty multi-instrumentalist sidekick Nick Funke, are guaranteed to melt both your heart and the soles of your cowboy boots. Her passionate delivery and charmingly engaging between-song banter compels you to fall under her spell.

Song topics range from unfulfilled dreams (Travelling Man) to longing to escape the tedium of the daily 9-5 (Rapunzel); and be prepared for the rocking foot-stompers that double-dare you to stay in your seat.

She has recently completed a new 6 track e.p with producer Tim Bidwell (Kate Walsh, Jono Mccleery, Peggy Sue, Fink) entitled 'Heavy Shoes'; an impressive and diverse collection of sumptuously arranged alt-country songs. Songs from the e.p have received regular airplay on local stations BBC southern counties & Radio Reverb.

Danni is regularly in the top 10 on the Americana UK Myspace Charts

Danni will be touring the East Coast of America from April 12th - May 7th 2010.
