Danny is a singer/songwriter whose style has been called "rootsy-bluesy-country-folky-pop." Danny is known for his warm, engaging, soulful and energetic performances, delivering highly personal original songs that capture a slightly askew view of the world

Biography

At five years old, Danny DeFonza's energetic, hip-swiveling, lip-quivering impersonation of Elvis Presley's "Hound Dog," played on $3 Sears plastic guitar, knocked the socks off of his Grandmother, "Bluebell." Grandma Bluebell saw a future performing sensation (Grandmas are like that!), and was inspired to bankroll guitar lessons for the lad.

Not one to waste the funding of an arts benefactor, Danny studied hard, and launched a string of bands over the next two decades, playing the Jersey Shore bar/nightclub/coffeehouse circuit.

In the early 1990's, WMJY in Long Branch, NJ, named Danny one of NJ's "10 Best New Songwriters," based on material he recorded with the band "Suburban Drive." The songs from the band's EP subsequently received airplay on NY, NJ, PA and CA radio stations.

Danny took a detour from music in the mid-90's to raise a family, and to explore a longtime "solo" dream away from band life -- stand-up comedy.

For five years, he paid his dues working comedy clubs in the NY/NJ/PA circuit. Comedy was fun, but Danny knew all along that music was his calling. He returned to his roots in 2001 with the NJ-based band, "Two Looks Away."

Spoiled by the personal, fast and improvisational nature of stand-up, Danny has now gone solo-acoustic with a new batch of stripped down songs in his latest CD, "Slow and Steady."

It's tough to label his style -- you'll hear a bit of rock, pop, country, blues, R&B -- even a smattering of jazz and rockabilly.

Like his Elvis gig in the living room at 5-years old, Danny on stage, alone with his guitar (now a much better model than the Sears plastic special!), is a warm, funny and engaging entertainer who knows how to deliver a song and win over an audience.

His most recent CD, "Slow and Steady," is available for free download at http://defonza.googlepages.com (see link below). Several of the songs are also available here on Sonic Bids.

Not Right In The Head

Written By: Danny DeFonza

You're not right in the head girl
You're not right in the head
I don't understand the way you think
I disagree with every word you said
But you tie the knots and I'll untangle them
'Cause you're not right in the head girl

You're not right in the head girl
You're not right in the head
All day long as the sun shines
You never get out of your bed
I bring you coffee, I bring you tea
'Cause you're not right in the head

You're not right girl
Somethin' went wrong between your ears
And you're wound too tight girl
And one of my biggest fears
In the middle of the night girl
Is this will go on for years and years and years and years

You're not right in the head girl
You're not right in the head
It's a cryin' shame you need so much
Livin' your life in the red
You wither away without my touch
'Cause you're not right in the head

The moonlight through the curtains falls across your crazy eyes
Dartin' back and forth from left to right
And I'm not really certain, but I would not be surprised
If we don't make it through the night

You're not right in the cabeza girl
You're not right in your head
But I love you so much it's makin' me ill
I'll never get outta your bed
I bring you gold, I bring you silver
'Cause I'm not right in the head

I'm not right girl
Somethin' went wrong between my ears
And I'm wound too tight girl
And one of my biggest fears
In the middle of the night girl
Is this will go on for years and years and years and years

We're not right in the head

The Wrong Man

Written By: Danny DeFonza

I am the wrong man to get your paperwork done
I am the wrong man to be wakin' with the risin' sun
I am the wrong man to cure your disease
You need a man with a plan, and I am the wrong man

I am the wrong man to make you middle class
I am the wrong man to be outside cuttin' your grass
I am the wrong man, I've been wrong from the start
So run as fast you can girl, I am the wrong man

The right man will make a decision
He'll move pretty fast
He will have a fair amount of precision
Sorry to say I'm a shotgun blast

I am the wrong man, get it through your head
You've got the wrong man sleepin' on the other side of your bed
I am the wrong man, throw my bags out the door
When you need a hand, I am the wrong man

The right man can shoulder the burden
And he'll carry the load
He's on the straight and narrow for certain
I'm sorry to say that I'm on a different road

I am the wrong man to wear wingtip shoes
I am the wrong man chokin' like a monkey in a business suit
I am the wrong man, you need a busy bee
Keep searchin' the land, 'cause I am the wrong man

Run as fast you can, I am the wrong man
Keep searchin' the land, I am the wrong man
I am the wrong man
The can't get along man
I am the wrong man
We ain't gonna get it on man
I am the wrong man

Da Fat Man Sing Da Blues

Written By: Danny DeFonza

Careful little baby, if you let me in your world
In 24 hours I can make your straight hair curl

Watch out 'lil darlin', if I'm comin' down your street
Take a walk with me, you feel like you got two left feet
That's the way that I move you

The fat lady can sing to you
Any song you choose
But I'm just gonna keep rolling along
'Cause it ain't over 'til the fat man sings the blues

Here's some information, if I pull up in a Cadillac
Stay out of the back seat, 'cause that is where I'm known to attack
We're gonna dance together, gonna do a pas de deux
Lots of fancy footwork, that's the way that I rendevous
That's the way that I pursue

The fat lady can sing to you
Any song you choose
But I'm just gonna keep rolling along
'Cause it ain't over 'til the fat man sings the blues

The fat man sings the blues
He's just out to confuse you girl
He's gonna knock you outta your shoes
Think that you got nothin' left in your lonely life to lose
But it ain't over 'til the fat man sings the blues

There's danger my petunia, when I'm playing my guitar
Every sighin' sweet note will send you to a distant star
If I toss out an offer say move in with me for sure
Before you know it you'll be cookin', cleanin', sweepin' the floor
I don't do that no more
