The Danny MacNeil Band

BandFolkRock

The Danny MacNeil Band combines folk-rock, jazz and alt-country with a dash of straight whiskey.… An eclectic yet cohesive band with raw energy.

Biography

What do you get when you take a punk-turned-folk singer/songwriter and surround him with a cast of jazz musicians? Perhaps a perfect storm… or in the case of The Danny MacNeil Band, a freight train of foot stomping intensity with chops to boot.

As a solo act, Cape Breton’s Danny MacNeil has released two independent EPs and has played over 50 shows from Sydney to Halifax, opening for the likes of Ten Second Epic, Ill Scarlet, The Wooden Sky, Jay Smith (Matt Mays & El Torpedo) and Steven MacDougall (Slowcoaster). Now armed with a collective of musicians well versed in a variety of musical styles, the band brings a whole new bag of tricks to Danny’s eccentric writing style and distinct voicing.

The Danny MacNeil Band hits a number of genres in their repertoire, with fast-paced, Elliott Brood-esque alt-country romps 'Spend My Money Dying', 'Motel 6' and the hometown bar room favourite 'Pass Me The Whiskey', while able to fall into a groove on songs like 'Waiting For My Time To Get Right', which sounds like a tougher, stripped down take on Dave Matthews' jazz-fused pop. The band really hits their stride with catchy hook-rockers 'Tell Me Where The Money Goes' and 'I Like Your Smile' which are sure to turn the bar upside down and get the crowd on their feet.

Danny MacNeil will be releasing his debut full-length album 'Corners of Woodlawn' in the spring of 2011. The album will strive to harness The Danny MacNeil Band's live energy, while also showcasing Danny as a solo act who is just as capable of hushing a crowd as he is pumping them up.

"MacNeil shows that he writes music that can not only catch a crowd’s attention, but hook them in and have them fully engrossed in his songs.... A true testimonial to Cape Breton's music scene" -whatsgoingon.ca

Lyrics

Tell Me Where The Money Goes

Written By: Danny MacNeil

This living coast is amplified by polar like rain
and bedrooms cold we depend on the comfort we attain

So can you tell me how this is gonna be? Can you tell me why I can't see?

Can you tell me where the money goes? Can you tell me how the bottle knows?

Fighting fear of getting lost in a new city
I never knew where I was going but my foot steps seem to know where they would take me
But foot steps decline the offer to be carefully placed
Lack of direction can often be mistaken for impossible to trace

So can you tell me how this is gonna be? Can you tell me why I can't see?

Can you tell me where the money goes? Can you tell me how the bottle knows?

Hang Off Your Reply

I'm amazed by your smile and the weight of your green eyes
They could take on the world with a wink and a mile
In my shoes because I am the luckiest man

So don't tell me that you're ever thinking about leaving, I couldn't handle the thought
I know my actions aren't always coherent but sit with me I'll share the love that I brought

You won't ever loose me even with a little heat
I can't imagine loosing the girl that I think about when I sleep

So don't tell me that you're ever thinking about leaving, I couldn't handle the thought
I know my actions aren't always coherent but sit with me I'll share the love that I brought

I don't know how your words make me weak and I won't ask why
Because when ever we speak I hang off your reply
