Danny Sherwood
London, England, United Kingdom | SELF
Bio
Danny grew up amongst the grey hills of Derbyshire. Although he has lived in London for almost a decade, his rural roots can still be seen in an apparent bleakness of outlook, short pronunciation of the vowel “a” and his oft-worn flat cap.
Songwriting since childhood, Danny's lyrical expression is driven by a desire to better understand himself and those close to him (frequently those who are bed-close). Through his elusive persona, Danny explores the contradictions of life and relationships: affection and anger, sickness and health, angst and apathy, tranquillity and turmoil.
Musically, his songs are derived from an eclectic mix of folk, blues, jazz, pop. His influences include Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Regina Spektor, David Bowie, Joni Mitchell and Ben Folds.
Danny’s voice is a deep baritone with a sometime growl, which often gets compared to Tom Waits. And sometimes Odetta. Once he was even likened to Danny from The Shining. In short, this is music written from the heart and sung from the belly.
