Dan Riley

Dan Riley

BandBluesSinger/Songwriter

AltBlues is how Dan has come to describe his music. Influenced by blues, folk, rock, jazz, alternative rock, and just about anything else he's ever heard, Dan's music is both lyrically solid and musically inviting.

Biography

"It's a HIT! A sure HIT!" This was Grammy Nominee, Singer/Songwriter Leslie Satcher's response after hearing Dan perform his song "Winner".

At age fourteen Dan was given his fist guitar and soon learned that writing his own songs was easier than trying to learn other people songs. Dan figured he was probably just lazy, not wanting to put the work into learning, but the songs just kept coming, so he kept writing.

Although Dan has written and worked on hundreds of songs only about seventy of those have made the cut for his present play list. Dan's performances usually include three 45-50 minute sets of all original music. To this date, due to his strict artistic ethic, Dan has yet to perform a cover song live(or it could be that "too lazy" thing again).

Dan has performed around Charleston, South Carolina over the past few years. Venues include, Millennium Music, The Mellow Mushroom, The Windjammer, Lite Affair, Moose Mountain Coffee, The Lager Head Tavern, to name a few.

As for recording, due to "budget limitations" all current recordings have been done in fairly small low tech studios, or in his living room. Even so, Dan has managed to produce two demo Cd's used mainly for booking gigs, although some copies have been sold.

Lyrics

What Hope

Written By: Daniel Riley

What hope for peace is there when everyone’s still fighting
What hope for peace is there when priests on both sides are igniting
A lust for blood and control
They say it’s for freedom that they’re fighting

What hope for peace is there when parents don’t love their children
What hope for peace is there when children do the killing
Technology has raised a generation
Now they’re raging

What hope for peace is there when all life is worth is money
What hope for peace is there when there’s still homeless, sick and hungry
Man won’t ever find a way
Until he finds his way
Back Home
Back Home

Avalanche

Written By: Daniel Riley

Avalanche just swallowed me
You’d think I’d want to break myself free
Your love came rolling down the hill
I ran but could not escape the chill

Chorus

The wall of your love consumed me whole
Knocked me down swept me off my feet
Never wanted to break your hold on me

Some call you poison some call you pain
Either way I want you just the same
Your the one keeps me up at night
So why should I put up a fight

Chorus
The wall of your love consumed me whole
Knocked me down swept me off my feet
Never wanted to break your hold on me

Bridge
Sometimes I cant breath
You know just what you’ve done
Your love is a force to be reckoned with
From which I can not run
This Avalanche
just swallowed me whole
If only I could figure out
how to take back control

Stone Wall (Bullet Proof)

Written By: Daniel Riley

Broken legs and bullet wounds
Can kill a man or make him great
Plane crashes and you walk away
You survive despite your fate

Chorus
A stone wall is what you are
Nothing can break thru
A stone wall is what you are
You believe your bullet proof

Bridge
So why do you let those words disturb you
Why do let those looks unnerve you
If you’re a stone wall where’s your strength
If you’re a stone wall you can still fall

Chorus
A stone wall is what you are
Nothing can break thru
A stone wall is what you are
You believe your bullet proof
