Fresh. Thoughtful. Honest. Smart. Real. (And stick-in-your-head catchy.)

Biography

St. Louis native Dan Schaefer was voluntarily transplanted to Nashville in the mid-‘90s, and a hook-heavy pop writing style was treated to an infusion of folk, country and Americana influences. His songs have been cut by independent artists including Mark Hatt, Cindy Standage and Kathy Hussey. Dan is part of Nashville's acclaimed writing/performing consortium The Variety Pack, and can often be found playing tunes at random watering holes in Nashville and elsewhere. He’s hit the circuit as a finalist at festivals including the Gum Tree Festival in Tupelo, Mississippi, and the Riverbluff Acoustic Music Festival in Ashland City, Tennessee.

Dan has released four full-length CDs on his independent Ten Fish Music label--Separate Vacations (2005), So Romantic (2007), Wild Ideas (2010) and Where the Days are Golden (2011). So Romantic was named the Nashville Independent Music (NIM) organization's 2007 Album of the Year. The songwriter/singer’s imaginary autobiography Three Cuts and a Day Job is still a work in progress.

Tin Roof Rain

Written By: Dan Schaefer

Tin Roof Rain
(Dan Schaefer)

A warm breeze is gently blowing
'Round a cabin miles outside of town
Except for you and me there's no one
To watch the sun go down

When the night decides that summer
Could use some rain to break the dry
We get inside beneath the covers
Imagining the sky

We wish upon the stars
To stay right where we are

(chorus:)
Listening to the tin roof rain
Falling on the world outside
Hoping it'll rain all night
And then all day

Dreaming to the rhythm of
Every little drop out there
I just want to stay right here
With the one I love

Listening to the tin roof rain

A million angels on the ceiling
Dance as we lose track of time
We're floating on the perfect feeling
Of your skin on mine

The whole world disappears
There's only us right here

(repeat chorus)
(instrumental)
(repeat chorus)

Listening to the tin roof rain...

Rediscover Me

Written By: Dan Schaefer

Pull out the winter coats
And put the summer clothes in boxes
We've seen the weather change
Like this so many times
Tonight let's light a fire
And hold each other close
And talk into
The latest hours of the night

Hello stranger
How've you been since we last left the world outside

(chorus:)
Rediscover me tonight
Be the lover in my eyes
Come remind me once again why I'm so
Thankful for this life

Feel me melting in your warmth
Heal yourself here in my arms
Come and find what's rare and finally share
This renaissance of souls in harmony

Rediscover me

Until to embers turn
The flames that light our way this evening
While time is standing still
Let's get back to the truth
With your skin touching mine
We'll reconnect again
And all night long
Feel like only true loves do

Hello old friend
Nice to feel this warm, familiar side of you

(repeat chorus)

Oh, why do wait so long in-between
When it feels like this every time you rediscover me...

(instrumental)

(final chorus:)

I'm so thankful for this life

Feel me melting in your warmth
Heal yourself here in my arms
Come and find what's rare and finally share
This renaissance of souls in harmony

Rediscover me
Rediscover me...

Guardian Angel

Written By: Dan Schaefer

Standing at the finish line
Thinking I could never race alone
Staring at the end of time
Thinking I'd be living on my own from then on

When I felt a touch, knew it must be you
Holding me up, still right there to help me through

(chorus:)
You make me strong, you fortify me
When things go wrong, you're here to guide me
All along, you've been beside me
Lighting my way, my guardian angel

Maybe it's a mystery
Every time you lead me through the rain
It's nothing that the world can see
Nothing I ever could explain--there's no way

When I feel a touch, I know it must be you
Holding me up, still right here to help me through

(chorus:)
You make me strong, you fortify me
When things go wrong, you're here to guide me
All along, you've been beside me
Lighting my way, my guardian angel

Thank you, my best friend
Until we meet again...

(chorus:)
Make me strong, fortify me
When things go wrong, be here to guide me
All along, you've been beside me
Lighting my way, my guardian angel

You're still lighting my way, my guardian angel

Life on Earth

Written By: Dan Schaefer

You've hit some rocks in the road
More like boulders, baby I know
It's hard to get up, get over and go
Just go on but you will; you're gonna get through

You've got good friends who understand
Why you've been sitting 'round with your head in your hands
We'll be right here to help you stand
Get back up on your feet when it feels right to you

Oh and baby 'til you do

(chorus:)
Just relax and take it easy for a while
Ain't nobody trying to rush you to a smile
One morning you will rise
Look up and realize
It's time to seize and shake the day for all it's worth
Live a little more life on earth

We all get knocked down from time to time
Hit those rough patches; I know I've seen mine
Sometimes when peace is hard to find
You've got to just wait and let the clouds blow through

Oh and baby 'til they do

(repeat chorus)

Surviving the crazy ebb and flow, it can be a fight
It can be a tough fight, baby
Just breathe and feel it
That's how you know you're still alive

(repeat chorus)

It's just life on earth...

No Way

Written By: Dan Schaefer

If you think I'd ever harbor
Any secrets unrevealed
If you think I'd even wonder
How another's arms might feel

(chorus:)
There's no way, no way
No way it's something I'd do
There's no way, no way
I promise you

If you think my love might falter
Let the question be erased
If you think I'd once consider
How another's kiss might taste

(repeat chorus)

With everlasting fervor temptation will not test
I'll speak these words forever with nothing to confess

As the years that lie before us
Melt away like candles burned
If you think I'll ever doubt you
Or the trust I give in turn

(repeat chorus twice)

I promise you...
