I just received an advanced copy of Danse De Sade’s “Rough Cuts” and I couldn’t be more pleasantly surprised. For those of you who don’t know, Danse De Sade is an upcoming new band from New York City who are resurrecting the rock and roll/punk sound of the 70s, and combining it with the dark/gothic feel of the early 80s. Drawing inspirations from a plethora of bands of that era, Danse De Sade’s music is catchy, but not cliche. They are quite guitar heavy, yet very danceable. Lyrically, they draw inspiration from the writings of the Marquis De Sade, as well as the dark themes in the old Hammer Horror Films. Simply put, this is “Good music for bad people”.
The “Rough Cuts” CD is a small compilation of their demo tracks that have been released on their YouTube channel, “Bourbon and Serpents”, “Danse the Baroque n’ Roll” and “Satanic Glampire”. “Rough Cuts” also features a previously unheard track “Welcome The Souleaters”, a gritty look at NYC night life from a predator’s point of view. This CD is being distributed for promotional purposes only, but if this promo is any indication of what their full length album will sound like, keep your eyes pealed for this one. It’s going to be an instant classic.
