Inspired by emcees like the Looptroop Rockers and Slug, and by beat makers such as Blueprint and Ant of Atmosphere, Dan Steele makes often chilled out, hard hitting, tongue twisting hip hop music. Although his music does not have an in-your-face message, he tries to keep things positive and relatable for his fans, with a desire not to pigeon-hole himself into the norm and expected.
For Dan Steele, making music is purely an act of love. When Dan put out his first demo EP in 2010, he titled it "Emcee... For Now," hinting towards his intentions of hanging up the mic, seemingly before he even stepped on stage. 'Emcee... For Now' was well received by friends, family, and other local rappers, and was the nod of approval and encouragement Dan needed to make another EP. It was at that point, that Dan really started to take music seriously, and treat it as an artform, and songs as works of art that needed to be crafted. Dan would go on to release three EPs in 2011: EP One, Masks: EP2, and SIT'N: EP3.
Now when Dan is in the studio recording and making beats, he describes the feeling he gets as being invigorating, and a feeling of gratitude that he gets to do what he does. Simply, the best feeling ever. In early 2012, Dan fell in love with the Native Instruments 'Maschine,' after watching YouTube videos in which the Maschine was prominently featured for beat production. Once Dan finally got his own Maschine, it was only a short matter of time before he started making his own beats, citing Blueprint and Ant of Atmosphere as two main inspirations as far as beat making is concerned.
His inspired work on the Maschine can be heard on his current single, 'Show Me How Long.'
Dan Steele is currently working on a few projects, the most notable being a new album entitled, 'Bigger Than Here,' with a February release date.
