"Dan White Rochester Jazz Star"

Dan White, the 21-year-old saxophonist who emerged as the 2010 Xerox Jazz Star Winner continues the rich tradition of great musicians who have emerged from Buffalo, NY.

A city that has given birth to Johnny Resnick of The Goo Goo Dolls, Rick James and Ani DiFranco. Not to mention jazz luminaries such as the super group Spyro Gyra, Bobby Militello, and the late great legendary Grover Washington Jr.

Dan White posses something unique in the 21st Century jazz world; rhythm, harmony, a voice and most importantly a PULSE!!

Dan does not try to sound like anybody although his influences are Sonny Rollins and Joshua Redman; Dan White is his own man, whose music breathes life in an age of stale (pun intended) Xerox copyists who wish to relive the past in secret cult ritual codes. Dan instead brings jazz back to where it belongs-to the street, for the people and by the people- A young JAZZ musician who thinks about his audience first. - What a concept!

So whether you see and hear Dan in a coffee shop, a club, a bar or on a stage, always remember that he means what he says and says what he plays-the truth.

2011-Between The Lines
2012-New York Sessions

Featuring a front line of multi-instrumentalists, the group has an array of sounds to bring to the table. Each member uses his unique instrumental voice to contribute collectively. From jazz, to second line, to funk, and even soul, every member puts their own stamp on each genre they play.

The Band formed in 2010 at Ohio State. As each member developed musically, they discovered their similar goals and ambitions, paving the way for a band that would later become known as the Dan White Sextet.

The group’s intentions are simple: make music that is fresh, honest and feels good.
