Bio

After enjoying a career as a multi-faceted studio wunderkind for over 15 years, the decision to become a full-time producer seemed a natural progression for Dan Workman.

With both feet on the ground and his head in the clouds, he thrust himself into the musical community at a young age while completing a degree in Clinical Psychology. Lured by the suave stylings of Big Band and Bebop Jazz, he set out to engage in as many musical endeavors as he could handle.

The beginnings of musical ingenuity can often be seen swimming around in a perpetual blend of extremes. Interestingly enough Workman was a founding member of the hugely controversial underground 80's art/noise group Culturcide, whose album Tacky Souvenirs caused a major uproar in the music industry and won the band critical success within the college music subculture. He has since evolved into an accomplished session player, engineer, producer and entrepreneur in the audio realm.

Workman’s professional discography reads like an atlas of the musical world. The diversity of the projects he picks makes it impossible to put him in a corner. From Punk Rock to Tejano, R&B to Country, and Gospel to Rap, he has performed, engineered, and produced an enormous amount of music. Besides being retained by ZZ Top for several years, Dan has worked on projects with Texas favorite Lyle Lovett, Latin pop icon Enrique Iglesias, rockers Smashmouth and country contemporary Clay Walker. An FOH engineer for some time, he has mixed live sound for such rock heavies as Korn, Ween, and the late Jeff Buckley. Workman has also contributed to a slew of film soundtracks including Charlie's Angels, Down To Earth, and Osmosis Jones.

As President and co-owner of SugarHill Recording Studios, Dan Workman oversees one of the most successful and historical production facilities in the south. The Big Bopper and Freddy Fender recorded their biggest hits within these walls. Only a few short years ago, he worked on the sophomore project of fellow Houstonians, Destiny's Child. Little did anyone know that they would produce multi-platinum albums and skyrocket to the top of the charts. It is with great pride and success that he is credited on all of the group's projects and solo efforts including Beyonce's current multi-platinum success, Dangerously In Love.

Widening the playing field can only amplify Dan Workman’s passion for his next creative experience. With the launch of Dan Workman Music, he hopes to do just that.
