It looked like a pre-fourth party at the site and this rising rap star video shoot. In what may well have been the first ever professional music video taped in Barnsville, a local rap artist was using the first single off his debut album to immortalize an area close to his heart. Dexter Gotell who goes by the name "Da ONE" has established his own independant record company NewBreed Records. Da ONE chose to shoot the video here because he was born and raised on Railroad Street, down in the bottom where your equal sign amounts to nothing. I wanted my town to be reprsented. I'm also trying to do something positive for the children to show them they can do what ever it is they want if they can think it. I want to promote Barneville , Our city is a great place to grow up and it needs exposure," he said. Da One is a breath of fresh air to the rap game and is bursting onto the music scene from a very obscure beginning. Unlike most artists in the music industry, he did not begin to rap until he was nineteen. Even though he is a late bloomer, music has been a big part of his life since he was a child through the influence of his father’s band and his constant involvement with music. The passion that Da One has for music is evident in his lyrics. Despite his trials and tribulations in many situations, he still persevered and is pursuing his dream. He is an inspiration to a lot of people in his community. Being raised poor, he has learned to be very resourceful and also learned how to persevere. He wants to show kids even though you were born into a certain situation, that does not mean you cannot rise up and live your dreams. He spends everyday of his life trying to perfect his craft .He has surpassed many rappers in the industry today with his cocky lyrics and raw delivery. His cockiness comes from the many struggles he has overcome.
Da One is representing his hometown of Barnesville Georgia, which is located just south of Atlanta. The southern bred rapper is the front man for the record label NewBreed Records. Although he embraces the different styles, such as crunk and snap music, which have put southern rap on the map, he delivers his own style of powerful lyrics delivered over dynamic beats. Da One is known around the state of Georgia for releasing his three classic underground albums. He released his first mixtape titled “Da One” in November of 2004. Just a few months later he released another classic album titled “Da Product” in February 2005. Da One’s last release was the mixtape titled “Thraxx”. This mixtape featured his cleaver lyrics and also introduced the other members of NewBreed Records. After dropping his three classic underground albums, Da One and NewBreed records know it’s time to take the industry by storm. Da One will be releasing “Da Chronicles of One” in 2007. This album is surely going to be rated as a classic Hip-Hop album within the mainstream media. So ladies and gentlemen please turn your heads to the left and get ready to ride the high with Da One.
