Sassy jazz twinge to earthy R&B tunes

Biography

Daphne Shawn hails from North Carolina where she was seranaded by both of her parents with R&B, jazz, blues and gospel music. Who knew that a little girl who made up songs swinging on her swing set would maintain the passion to keep her singing? Daphne's influences are great due to her work as a musical theatre actress. She revels in the arias of Puccini, the scores of Adam Guettel and the contemplative heartache of Billy Holiday while grooving to D'Angelo and Jill Scott. Her first project, "What It's All About" is also the music that comprised her first cabaret show in NYC at Don't Tell Mama's. This music is lush, jazzy, gritty and yearning. However, Daphne's been busy writing original tunes that reflect a stronger R&B connection.

Lyrics

Preacha Man

Written By: Daphne Shawn; Frank Ponzio

Preacha man
Wonder what life's like for you?
Are you often lonely?

Preacha man
Just what does God say to you?
You the one and only

Have you ever stared into the abyss?
Searching aimlessly for all of the answers

Preacha man
You're a nomad just the same
In this great adventure named
Life!

Preacha man
Do you ever wonder why
There is so much sorrow

Preacha man
How do you keep faith alive
Ready for tomorrow

Are the scales of Ms. Justice
Just a joke
Is the sweet by and by all there's to live for

Preacha man
You're a nomad just the same
In this great adventure named
Life

Babies drown at their mothers' hand
Towers fall, turn to dust and then
We turn the channel
We turn the channel
Every truth hides an ugly lie
Every crime as an alibi
How can you handle, handle this
Preacha man?

Preacha man
I've seen teardrops in your eyes
Yet you kept on smiling

Preacha man
Every day you improvise
Yet not compromising

So tonight I am sending you a prayer
Knowing you are in need like all the others

Preacha man
You're a nomad just the same
In this great adventure named
Life

Satisfied

Written By: Daphne Shawn; Frank Ponzio

Fate's a very funny thing
She'll sometimes know your wish and bring it to you
Many nights I cried and prayed
Never knowing if the day'd come through

Now you're here
And if it's not a lifetime
I'm satisfied
(It's really alright, Alright)
Really not a mystery
The way you opened up to me
What a lifeline

And I'm
High on you
The way you kiss
Caress me with your smile
Can I
Fly with you
Taste ecstacy if only for a while
Mile after mile
Keep me satisfied

Now usually I'm very shy
But in your arms I don't why
I rapture
Sometimes without a thing to say
You love like there's no other way to live
In the night you make love to me fiercely, hungrily
Deeper than the physical
You've touched the belly of my soul
And healed me

And I'm
High on you
The way you kiss
Caress me with your smile
Can I
Fly with you
Taste ecstacy if only for a while
Mile after mile
Keep me satisfied

Don't mind sharing secrets
Shedding needless skin
You have saved me from the darkness
And uncovered the real me within

And I'm
High on you
The way you kiss
Caress me with your smile
Can I
Fly with you
Taste ecstacy if only for a while
Mile after mile
Keep me satisfied
