Biography

D’Arc, a five-piece, Montreal-based pop band, has just released its debut project “A Metaphysical Girl”, a clever and compelling mix of pop hooks, lyrics and harmonies set over a driving rhythm section. The band, consisting of experienced musicians whose musical influences range from Brit pop to jazz funk, blended their differences to create a refreshingly original sound.

Singer / songwriter Silvio and bassist David Vaglio, long time friends and collaborating musicians, began shaping the band’s unique style in 2004 when they asked R&B drummer Erik Gutmanis to complete D’Arc’s core rhythm section. Searching for a “touch of class” they then asked pianist Katherine Trajan to join them as second voice and lead instrument. With Matthieu Goulet, keyboard and multi instrumentalist, “jazzing it up”, they found the final layer they needed to create the complex texture that is D’Arc’s trademark style.

Since recording their debut EP, “A Metaphysical Girl” in early 2005, D’Arc continues to build and promote their new sound. Their recent shows received critical acclaim as high-energy, soulful performances. Committed to building a greater following in their native Montreal, the band is currently focused on songwriting, performance and recording. Then, winning new fans with each performance, D’Arc plans to put this band on the map in 2005.

Lyrics

A Metaphysical Girl

Written By: S. Ursino

Ah…Metaphysical Girl
She owns all the handles
Her minarets of faith cover every angle
Ah…Metaphysical girl
Harbors an answer
In a body blood that leave Christian rockers in traction

A Metaphysical girl

She’s interested in the afterlife
And the plans you make
When you’re done gallivanting with your wife
She’ll question your theology
But once the curtains are drawn,
She summons varied deities

A Metaphysical Girl

I heard she shoplifts a man’s state,
And places his head
On a Sotheby (hmm) auctioned collection Plate.
I’ve seen her spiritual world
And heard her landlord lament
of those Sunday morning rituals.

A Metaphysical Girl

Answers are questions with cursed punctuations
Man and Woman alone end in revelations

The Girl Who Delivers Eulogies

Written By: S. Ursino

She’s a chocolate heart with passion to burn
A pepper spray tongue with a gentle concern
Tall enough to woo fruit from anyone’s tree
Have you met the girl who delivers eulogies?

She gets angry when I think cryptically
She gets worried when I speak silently
A soundtrack to souls who mourn youth quietly.
Have you met, Have you met, Have you met
Have you met the girl who delivers eulogies?

She is everyone’s friend so she always makes the speech
Photographic memory, yet desires speaking freely
Alone in her teens but now destined to me
Have you met, have you met, have you met
Have you met the girl, who delivers eulogies?

Love is like a newborn baby trying to breathe
It may be simple but never easy (except for The Girl)

Have you met the girl who delivers eulogies?

Metropolis

Written By: S. Ursino

Unveiling foreign currencies
Taking snapshots of rank street corners
In a scene that wishes it was Paris
Designed to levee more taxes
To some this is tourism heaven
Devour a piece in about 2 weeks
We call this our home for the remainder
Though countless push us off the mountain

Metropolis, your burden is insatiable
Who will carry it when we leave?
Who will pay the electric bill that lights our ordained alleys?

Equine gifts, cobblestone and potholes
Brewery wafts enough to Gomorrahlize me
the exodus will soon finish us
So seize 2 of each sin as you leave her
A broken neck will see in all directions
That is your view of us I’ve reckoned
From their high horse, all is peaceful
But From Where I stand all is abandoned

Metropolis, your burden is insatiable
Who will carry it when we leave?
Who will pay the electric bill that lights your ordained alleys?

Goodbye old lover, Adieu old friend
I want to take you with me but you know I can’t
