Biography

It's a Kelly Clarkson-Eva Cassidy-Ann Wilson sandwich with a side of Aretha.

TALENT IS BACK.

Darci Monet is a classically and commercially trained professional vocalist, vocal coach, independent recording artist and award-winning songwriter. She gave her first professional performance at age eleven in Upstate New York in a local production of "Annie", began her professional career during college at Belmont University in Nashville as a studio singer, songwriter and recording artist and continues now in Los Angeles.

Darci's vocal credits include principal performances in film and television ("Napoleon Dynamite", "How I Met Your Mother"), live performances and master recording sessions with major label artists (Dolly Parton, Steve Winwood, Amy Grant, The Judds, etc.), songwriter demos (ABC sitcom "Hope and Faith") and national ads (Subway Corporation). Live, Darci currently performs backup for top ten Billboard-charting dance diva/rocker Debby Holiday.

Songs she has written have been featured in indie movies and major network television shows ("Kiss The Bride" starring Tori Spelling, "The Apprentice", "The Young & The Restless", "Days of Our Lives"), won awards and honorable mentions in prestigious songwriting competitions (Unisong Songwriting Contest, Great American Song Contest, Billboard Songwriting Contest), and have been cut on major label albums (Music With A Twist, distributed by Columbia).

Stepping out from behind the scenes, Darci has just finished her new CD, which was released on May 12, 2009. Fusion seamlessly brings together "Rock Chick-Darci" and "Coffeehouse-Darci," like a Kelly Clarkson, Eva Cassidy and Ann Wilson sandwich with a side of Aretha. She explains, “This project represents what I feel are the two strongest sides of me as a musician and writer. I decided that if I was going to take on the monumental task of recording an album again, I’d want both sides represented. So, ‘side A’ is the full band, full production pop/rock with a splash of soul I’m already known for. ‘Side B’ represents the quiet side that before now has mostly revealed itself in collaborations I’ve done on other artists’ projects.” Tracks featured on the album were written with Levi Kreis (on whose critically acclaimed albums One of the Ones and The Gospel According to Levi she is prominently featured as a writer and vocalist), Debby Holiday, Jeff Fedak, Chris Mitchell and Brandon Harvey. Fusion was produced by Darci and Steve Gryphon (Avril Lavigne, Gavin DeGraw, Debby Holiday), with pre-production by Ron Jagger (Michael W. Smith, dc Talk).

As a vocal coach, Darci's studio is exclusive and she accepts students by audition only. Darci's clients have appeared in national commercials, on Broadway, L.A.'s best clubs and everywhere in between. She also utilizes her coaching expertise as the author of the popular web column "A Working Musician's Review", in which she reviews contestants' performances on shows like "American Idol." She also sits as head judge for "Fame," L.A.'s best singing competition hosted by promoter Mario Pescatore.

Darci is SAG-eligible and her publishing company, Songs From The Fortress, is registered with BMI.

"Fusion" and "My Own Road" can be purchased physically and digitally at DarciMonet.com, CDBaby.com, iTunes and various other online retailers.

Lyrics

I Should Go

Written By: Levi Kreis/Darci Monet

V1)
Here we are
Isn't it familiar
Haven't had someone to talk to
In such a long time
And it's strange
All we have in common
And your company was just the thing I needed tonight
Somehow I feel I should apologize
Cuz I'm just a little shaken
By what's going on inside

CH)
I should go
Before my will gets any weaker
And my eyes begin to linger
Longer than they should
I should go
Before I lose my sense of reason
And this hour holds more meaning
Than it ever could
I should go
I should go
Baby, I should go

V2)
It's so hard
Keeping my composure
And pretend I don't see how
Your body curves beneath your clothes
And your laugh
Is pure and unaffected
It frightens me to know so well the place I shouldn't go
I know I gotta take the noble path
Cuz I don't want you to question
The intentions that I have

(CH)

BR)
I don't mean to leave you with a trivial excuse
And when you call tomorrow, I'll know what to do

(CH)

Smoke and Leather

Written By: Darci Monet and Levi Kreis

V1:
Sultry summer night
the juke joint’s jumpin’
They come from all around to hear the boys lay down the groove
From the corner of my eye
I saw you comin’
When you stood beside me
it was tough to keep my cool

You triggered my senses
And it’s more than I can stand
Caught that bittersweet aroma
The essence of a man

CH:
Smoke and leather
Damn, you’re a force of nature
Pullin’ me to you like gravity
Smoke and leather
Can I get a little closer
I bet you can give me what I need

V2:
In the haze and the din
you got all my attention
My head began to swim with every minute by your side
I got drunk on your scent
a chemical reaction
That unexplained juju that can make a woman wild
I can feel my composure
Crumblin’ apart
How can a perfect stranger
Do this to my heart

(CH)

Jezebel

Written By: Darci Monet/Levi Kreis

JEZEBEL
(Monet/Kreis)

V1:
Fiery red hair, beguiling blue stare
I saw how she caught your eye
Look if you dare, but you should be aware
She never lets her victims survive
Oooh, she’s a little vixen
Better to keep your distance

CH1:
Baby don’t cha know that woman is a Jezebel
One, two, she got you underneath her wicked spell
Wake up, pick yourself up and get out alive

V2:
More complex than the rush of mere sex
It’s the soul that she really wants
If she chooses you next, you’d better expect
There’ll be nothing left of you when she’s done
Always the same old story
You oughta heed my warning

CH2:
Baby don’t cha know that woman is a Jezebel
One, two, she got you underneath her wicked spell
Wake up, pick yourself up and get out alive
Baby don’t cha know that woman is a Jezebel
Three, four, run before she drags you down into hell
Hear me, don’t cha be Jezebel’s prey tonight

BR:
Oooh, what a little vixen
Better to keep your distance
You’ll be wishin’
You had listened

(repeat CH2)

Go On

Written By: Darci Monet/Levi Kreis

Go On

V1:
Monday morning, 6am
He leaves his empty bed
Like countless other times
He puts on his bravest face
Before he goes to wake
The child she left behind
Even though he feels as cold
As the gaping hole
That took away his bride

CH1:
He goes on
When there’s no will left to fight he goes on
Cuz a better day will come before long
That’s what he’s counting on
He goes on

V2:
The people go about their days
With heartache on display
Right before their eyes
But with resolve of steel
They manage to conceal
All the tears they’ve cried
Cuz they know they will rebound
From the ash of hallowed ground
The city still survives

CH2:
They go on
When there’s no will left to fight they goes on
Cuz a better day will come before long
That’s what they’re counting on
They goes on

BR:
The lesson I have learned
Is that peace can only be earned
Why don’t we stand together

CH3:
We’ll go on
When there’s no will left to fight we’ll go on
Cuz a better day will come before long
That’s what I’m counting on
We’ll go on

September

Written By: Darci Monet and Jeff Fedak

V1:
Come October
When this is over
I’ll remember
A sweet September
When the days still warm with summer’s kiss
Turned to nights of senseless bliss
When my name was music to your ears
Another time, another world
When I used to be your girl

CH:
I’ll remember you like you told me to
I won’t forget how our souls once met
In the cold dawn when I find you gone
I’ll remember a sweet September

V2:
Should’ve known
We had no right
To let our hearts
Take such a flight
No right to call the angels down
Or to bid them gather round
Who were we to dare and touch Divine
‘Cause love is blind and love is deaf
Now here we are with nothing left

(CH)

(Cello Solo)

Another time, another place
When September slipped away

(CH)

Outro:
I’ll remember you
I’ll remember you
I’ll remember you
I’ll remember…

Raging

Written By: Darci Monet/Levi Kreis

V1:
He is the kind, make ya laugh when you wanna cry
But deep inside, his demons scream all day and night
He’s trapped, bound by indecision
A prisoner of his thoughts

CH1:
And the sun has turned its face away
The sky grows darker by the day
No one knows his heart is raging
You can see it in his lifeless smile
It’s all a game, it’s all denial
No one knows his heart is raging

V2:
She is the kind, give ya the shirt right off her back
But in her mind she doesn’t think she’s worth even that
She can’t stop the train approaching
She can’t get off the tracks

CH2:
And the sun has turned its face away
The sky grows darker by the day
No one knows her heart is raging
You can see it when she hides her eyes
She lives in fear, she lives a lie
No one knows her heart is raging

BR:
How do we keep overlooking
What’s plain enough to see

CH3:
And the sun has turned its face away
The sky grows darker by the day
Don’t you know my heart is raging
You never see what I hide inside
You just go on with your life
Don’t you know my heart is raging
Their hearts are raging
Your heart is sleeping

Breathe

Written By: Darci Monet and Christopher Mitchell

Let the wind hit your face, my dear
Look at the rain as crystal clear
Let the world become your fortress
And sacrifice a song to your tears

Let this pain become your joy here
The ocean become the sky
Let these arms be a little help here
And learn to live from things that die

CH:
And breathe
Breathe
Beathe

Let your rage become the thunder
And your love become the storm
Let the showers fall around you
Until your heart is born

(CH)

La la la la la la…

(CH)

Let the world fall off your shoulders
And love consume all fear
Let the things you know be the things you are
And dedicate your sorrow here

(CH)

In The Rain

Written By: Darci Monet

Dark at night, I taste the rain on my lips
In my mind I wish it was your kiss
Souls that meet like no one else I've ever known
Turned to me and said you'd rather be alone
Alone
Left me there in the rain
Needing you, just needing you
I could not erase the look on your face
Telling me goodbye
This is not the road I thought you led me to
But still I taste your lips on mine

Eyes of blue that cannot tell me lies
Say to me that you will want me tonight
But your words tell me to just go away
Then I hear, I hear your voice break
Break
Even in all this rain
I can see, yes I can see
Every little tear I feel every fear
That you try to hide
We both know there are no guarantees
But still I taste your lips on mine
On mine

In the rain...
In the rain..
In the rain...
