Da Rezarekt
by Brittany Sturges, Temple '08

~At one point during the set, I was able to talk with the bassist of Da Rezerekt, Derek a.k.a. Puffy D. I had listened to Da Rezarekt, and thought that their sound is one of the best blends of funk and hip-hop, woven in with some great rock riffs. So what were they doing on a metal band bill?

He said, “I don’t know why, but we seem to do well when we’re placed with all rap groups or heavy metal bands.” ~

~Da Rezarekt took the stage and their fans clustered around the barrier. As they started playing, the energy in the room burst out.

Maybe it was the brisk beats that were refreshing after an hour-and-a-half of metal with no distinction between the groups. Maybe it was their stage show, or perhaps the charisma of frontman, Supreem. Whatever it was, it was the cure for the night.

At one point, Supreem came down to the barriers, rapping to the crowd (which included a very special guest—his young daughter, Olivia). As he got back on the stage during the last song, he pulled fliers out of his back pocket, throwing them into the air. Audience members grabbed at them, as they fluttered to the music.

After Da Rezarekt’s set, I gave up on the bill and went home. Other acts included Seven Stone, Fatal Verdict and headliners, Unit.

"Play review 1/07"

Da Rezarekt
Get in the groove with Da Rezarekt. Funk rock hip-hop all-stars Supreem (MC/frontman), Tina “Tom Toms” (drums), Low B. Puffy D. (bass) and Matt Lipschutz (guitar) are making a name for themselves in the Philly music scene. Surprisingly their very first show was on Thanksgiving Eve ’06 — it’s hard to believe that these musicians have only been making tunes together for a little over a month.

According to Supreem, Da Rezarekt formed as a result of the breakup of his former band, Simple and Supreem. It was basically a natural follow-up for this musician to join forces with other rockers. This brand-new group already has a three-song demo out, produced, recorded and mixed by Ozone Studios’ Ron DiSilvestro and mastered by Phil Nicolo (who also put out albums for The Police, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and others).

Da Rezarekt is from Philly, but they’ve been performing all over the region — we think it won’t be long before they’ve dominated the entire East Coast.

You can raise them from the dead at www.myspace.com/darezarekt. - Play Magazine

"Origivation, band review"

I’m hesitant to use the term rap-rock because of all the horrible acts it recalls, but with Supreem, a full-on, larger-than-life hip-hop emcee, fronting a band comprised of some of Philly’s ballsiest rock players, Da Rezarekt should wear the tag like a Best-of-Both-Worlds crown. Forgive the pun, but with their furious party energy, Da Rezarekt’s live show could fucking raise the dead. I dare you not to have a good time.

"Dewey Beach Music Conference Review"

Da Rezarekt is the perfect example of what a band should do at a
Music Conference. They worked the entire weekend promoting themselves
to industry and fans alike.. and by the time they reached the
stage..there was such a buzz about them, and they did not dissapoint..
they had the crowd begging for more.

Bio

Da Rezarekt is a one of a kind band on the scene. A scholar of Philly Old School Hip Hop, front man Supreem met up with the funkadelphia bass player Low B Puffy D to embark on a musical journey. Searching for a guitar player, in walks ‘Guitar Grrrl’ Marisa for an audition. Within minutes, the dynamic pair knew something special just arrived to the band known as Da Rezarekt. With the addition of funky ass drummer ‘Supa Star Dar’, Da Rezarekt has become the liveliest band on the planet.

Their live performances is a sight to be seen, heard and felt with a FunkRockHop sound and insane energy that hasn’t been experienced in a long time; with people dancing, laughing, grooving, rockin’ out and having a great ass time at each show.

Da Rezarekt recently released ‘What Da Puck?…A Live Bootleg’ which captures their live show to the fullest. Currently, trying to keep up with orders to supply the masses, Da Rez has sold almost 1500 CDs.

During the past two years, the band has played the Vans Warped Tour 2009, SXSW 2009 & 2010, Dewey Beach Music Conference & Festivals, Red Gorilla Fest 2009 & 2010 and multiple supporting dates for Pyschostick. Da Rezarekt has embarked on several mini tours in the north and southeast corridors. They are constantly on tour and will be coming soon to a town near you.
