"Dark Rouge Park build rolling soundscapes that are profoundly thought-provoking!"

The synthpop combo of Dark Rouge Park formed in 2012, but the individual band members have been on stage for over 20 years. Thomas Sathmari (Drummer, Keyboardist, Percussionist, Songwriter, Synths), whose first work, called Space Project, was released in the early 90’s, has also been an integral part of other groups as a songwriter, producer and keyboardist. Janos Karsky (Keyboardist, Pianist, Songwriter, Synths), started his musician career as a Club DJ in various places, followed by a 2 year Radio DJ era. Front lady and singer Edina Simon (Vocalist, Backup Vocalist, Songwriter), has worked with a lots of popular European and Hungarian bands as background vocalist, including a well-known Eurodance group, called Groovehouse, and a Pink Floyd tribute band, called ‘Keep Floyding’.

dark-rouge-park-350Truly their latest track, “Parallel Life”, accomplishes the melancholy and melody, under a bouncing beat, that most synth bands strive for but cannot quite reach. The strength of this stand-alone track becomes evident after only a few bars and shows how this trio can simultaneously build a rolling soundscape that can hold its own in any pop singles charts, as well as be profoundly thought provoking.

Quite literally, Dark Rouge Park are masters of melding slamming synth beats, layers of luscious sound, beautiful vocals, rich and vivid storytelling, and plenty of harmony, into tracks that defy convention. Mysterious, indefinable genius fills their music. They are architects of auditory landscapes that are haunting, beautiful, sometimes danceable, funky, fun, intense, both pop and anti-pop, but always worth the price of admission.

dark-rouge-park-logoCompositionally, I think Dark Rouge Park has a lot going for them – interesting and complex chord progressions, but in a pop vein which are easily grasped by listeners of any level of music appreciation. While Edina’s vocals are superb, the music between vocal parts is some of the best, too.

If you could blend the dark, somber and moody instrumentals of Depeche Mode with the soaring, melodic and contagious tunes of Roxette, you would be close to the general feel Dark Rouge Park achieves on their recordings. Their sound is mature, grounded and the benefit of their individual experiences bolsters the caliber of their recordings.

dark-rouge-park-collageThe diverse narratives of their songs have been sculpted with precision and a delicate, but powerful touch. The best examples can be found in the towering “Hotel In L.A.” and the epic and atmospheric, “The Lyrics Always Says The Same”. But they can even move more left-field and into darker territory when they want, as is evidenced on the ominous pieces, “Nightmare” and “Loneliness”.

Lead vocalist Edina Simon deserves much of the credit for the successful outcome of these recordings. A lot of similar bands have female vocals that are thin and whimsical, but Edina has a fuller sound, better range and an uncanny skill at building layers of drama and emotion through tone changes. She can casually get away with quite dark lyrics at times and still have the music sound very danceable and light given her sweet clear tone.

Musically, Dark Rouge Park is light years ahead of the current competition. They take a sound and style that was initiated in the 80s and twist it into something extremely palatable for the 21st Century. Theirs is a masterfully produced collection of superb synth songs that reaffirms what an art it truly is to make gorgeous, meaningful electronica. - Rick Jamm

"Dark Rouge Park and the Darker topics of the life"

Dark Rouge Park, a Detroit-based raw, soulful, and dark electronic trio committed to pursuing life’s more shadowed topics often left out of lyrics by typical musicians and producers, is shedding light on important issues we often overlook throughout our daily lives.

The only band dedicated to singing songs about the negative aspects of life as their own unique performance style, Dark Rouge Park explores topics like depression, suicide, domestic violence, child abuse, death, lost love, and so many other heart wrenching states.

“We want to, through our Synthpop Electronic musical expression, provide thought-provoking lyrics that get people thinking when listening,” said Edina Simon, Dark Rouge Park singer-songwriter. “It’s music that’s meant to stay with you long after listening, and we want to encourage an alternate-reality train of thought otherwise passed over.”

Dark Rouge Park’s music features dark, rhythmic electronic undercurrents, covered by powerful female vocals and eerie coordinated lyrics. The whole production brings life to the dark subject matter, and makes exploring the topics natural and more expressive for the everyday listener.

Dark Rouge Park currently has four music videos available for viewing on YouTube accompanying four of their mystifying singles. Each music video perfectly captures the spine-chilling verbiage, and leaves the viewer mesmerized, marveled, and thoroughly haunted.

“We’re encouraging everyone looking for music that is more stimulatingly interesting to give our songs a listen,” said Simon. “Spread the word, and head on over to our Soundcloud or YouTube channel today to get a better feel of our style.” - Neffworking (Marcia)

"Dark Rouge Park Discusses New Release, “Parallel World”"

The music of Dark Rouge Park combines classic electronic SynthPop sound with thought-provoking lyrics and unique vocal styling. The lyrics focuses on the reality and sadness in life while promoting survival and coping. “Parallel World addresses topics you don’t always hear discussed in other music, and they do so in such a deep, meaningful way,” describes one fan after hearing the album. “The music stays with you long after the songs are over.” We got to catch up with Dark Rouge Park and discuss the most recent release, “Parallel World”, writing processes, and future goals, right here on ET!

Where did your interest in writing and performing sprout from? Where did the name Dark Rogue Park come from? I write poems and essay for about 20 years. Thomas, the other songwriter is the same. He is in the music business for 25+ years. His first project was “The Space Project”, an instrumental electronic album, followed soon by “The Space Project II”. I started my career as a club DJ, Radio DJ and I formed my first Eurodance band in 1994 called “ProvidAnce”. Edina is on stage for 20 years, worked with various famous artists, worked together with musicians in various projects. Last time, she signed the official song of the hungarian olympic team and the olympicon for the 2016 olympic games in Rio.

What are some of your most recent releases? Can you tell us a bit about them, and how they came about? I wrote instrumental music under the name “Dark Light”. Thomas, the another band member had a studio, called “park studio” and a music video production company, called “park film”. Now, we are the “dark park”, we compose sadness and deep emotions into music. When Edina, the singer girl joined to us, a girl represented the “rouge”, so the name came to “Dark Rouge Park”, which represents all of us, and of course or style.
What was the recording process like for that release? We are now working on our first album, called “Parallel World”. Parallel world reflects the problems today, which is a lot of people lives only in the social media instead of their real life. One of our song, called Parallel Life talks about this, when a common girl lives in the cyber world, thinks and believe in that, she is a celebrity and she igonres the real world. Our first music video (will be released in about 2 weeks from now) filmed about this music.

What is your main goal for you to achieve through music? We would like to talk about the negative side of the life. Every band sings about happyness, endless love, sunny beaches, etc. This kind of lfe is just a dream for a lots of people.. We sing/talk about the real life, like death, lost love (process a loss), domestic violence, cyber bullying, suicude awareness, depression, terminal illness, the danger of the cyber date… In our songs, we try to show a way out from the situation, while completely understand the subjects feelings. With our song, we would like to give help to people in deep emotional distress and help others to live together with a loss. - Jacqueline Cassell

Even though, Dark Rouge Park formed in 2012, the band members have been on stage for 20+ years individually.

Thomas Sathmari's first work, called Space Project was released in the early 90's, followed by the second album, called "Space Project II".

Thomas was a member of another band, called "Car Wreckers", and in the 2000's he was the songwriter, producer and keyboardist a special group, called MOTIVA.
This band plays classical Hungarian Folk songs, but the music is electronic/synthpop while the feeling and the overall voice follows the traditional Hungarian Folk.

Janos Karsky started his musician career as a Club DJ in various places, followed by a 2 year Radio DJ era. He started to work on the earlier song's of Dark Rouge Park alone as a solo musician. He wrote instrumental songs under name Dark Light Shadow.

Edina Simon, the front person and the singer of the band has a very long musician and on-stage experience. She worked together with a lots of popular European and Hungarian bands as background vocalist, including a well known Eurodance group, called Groovehouse, and a Pink Floyd tribute band, called "Keep Floyding".

Dark Rouge Park finally formed in 2012, when Thomas and Janos started to work together. Edina finally joined to the group in 2013 and they soon finished their first song, called Let Me Go.
Their songs focus to negative things, which are part of the life. Songs about deep depression, domestic violence and abusive relationships, they talk about the cyber bullying, the danger of the cyber dating and the negative side of the social media, death, lost love and sadness.

Of course, they try to help to get out from this negative situation, therefore the sad song always shows a happier outgoing.
