Dark Horse

Dark Horse

BandAlternativeRock

Alternative progressive rock with classic rock influences. Heavy guitar rhythms supported by tasty drum licks. In the vain of The Who, Pearl Jam, Incubus, Jeff Buckley, King's X, Tool, and Alice in Chains.

Biography

Dark Horse began performing and recording at Syracuse University in the spring of 2004. The name was construed behind the concept of the underdog, the one that surprises you.

With a desire to stay versitile and draw from various musical influences, Dark Horse looks to return arena style rock to the forefront of American music.
The signature Dark Horse sound features a blend of alternative, progressive, classic rock, and grunge, but can best be described as an interbreed of Giangrande's early nineties fuzz with a variety of uptempo eclectic grooves provided by Nichols.

Debut album entitled "Queen Apathy", features everything from the Tool influenced progressive rocker "Bottom of a Bottle" to acoustic ballad "Say My Name". Giangrande connects with the emotional listener using an in depth first person lyrical narrative. He strives to be a contemporary voice in the present day, 2009, while remaining accessible to the average music listener. Dark Horse most importantly prides themselves on being an authentic band in an era of rock music that often lacks passion and finds itself without a true identity.

Lyrics

Bunches

Written By: L. Giangrande

Suddenly I just can't find it
A pretty girl or money in my wallet
Had a job and friends to boot
Self confidence, eternal truth

1,2,3,4, and 5,6
Chances at life it's just fixed
So find me a job and find me a date
Because the good things and bad things come in bunches

When things are good, they're grand and
Satans lust can take my hand
I'm doing wrong but it feels alright
You see dark and I see light

1,2,3,4, and 5,6
Chances at life it's just fixed
So find me a job and find me a date
Because the good things and bad things come in bunches
Like visceral highs and broken hunches
Yeah the good things in life they come in bunches

I get laid three times in a weekend
Leave Vegas on a winning streak and
I'm feeling good I'll ask for more well
My luck will turn sour I'm sure

Welcome Home

Written By: L. Giangrande

She lays, in her husbands bed and she sighs
She's settled, after true love passed her by
Her eyes close, remind her of a youth long gone that she sold

He struggles, with the same old job he's always had
Suit and tie, a caffeine high never felt so bad
His eyes close, remind him of the dreams he used to have

Welcome Home
You're just like before tonight
Welcome Home
You've stayed indoors all your life

Welcome Home
You're just like before tonight
Welcome Home
You've stayed indoors all your life

She finds it hard to say
Things would be better if I'd stayed with him
He comes home tired from work everyday
And thinks about all he gives up for good pay
They're eyes close, remind them of the dreams long gone that they've sold

Welcome Home

Bottom of a Bottle

Written By: L. Giangrande

Tell me what you think
I think you're a failure
Have another drink
Before you look in the mirror

Does it surprise you?
Your days turn into years
While you're sitting on a barstool
Your aspirations
At the bottom of a bottle

It's where you live
At the bottom of a bottle
It's where we hide
At the bottom of a bottle
At the bottom of a bottle

Show your soul to me
Is in neutral where you really wanna be?
Just sit comfortably
And throw one back to lost opportunity

Does it surprise you?
You never left
You're still in high school
All your hopes and dreams
At the bottom of a bottle

Fading

Written By: L. Giangrande

Let the horror beseech me
As I hear the words I thought I heard
End the dream I've lived for a year now
Play it back, fires couldn't burn
When I'm near you girl
Rain pours down, you protect me from the world
It's uncertainties and the fears I fear
I'm leaving town tonight

So smile for me girl
One last time
Let me see it in your eyes
As we're fading

And listen to me girl
It's the end of our time
Let me feel you inside
As we're fading

In a cold November only hours to spend girl
We lay under the stars until our breath can be seen in little clouds
I can't believe the sound of your voice, it brings us hope
I can't believe we've found romance
So take this crown it's how I'll treat you now
Just like a queen
Your majesty, hail to the queen

So smile for me girl
One last time
Let me see it in your eyes
As we're fading

And listen to me girl
It's the end of our time
Let me feel you inside
As we're fading

And by the photos I keep
I'll remember your air that kept me afloat
And by the powers that be
I swear I'll fill my silence with songs that I sing

Away

Written By: L. Giangrande

You're a stranger
To the ghosts of my past
Familiar faces become a danger
And dreams never last

This anxiety rears it's ugly face
Takes me kicking and screaming
My senses are dulled
I get used to this place

Thoughts of another life are my saving grace
With no visible attachments and no daily grind
Rock and roll in it's place

I never believed in destiny
A life's work will lead to success
We have the power to rewrite history
To get out of this town
To relieve the stress

This anxiety rears it's ugly face
Takes me kicking and screaming
My senses are dulled
I get used to this place

Thoughts of another life are my saving grace
With no visible attachments and no daily grind
Rock and roll in it's place

I never thought I'd walk away
But I've got to get outta this place
It's time for me to seize the day
And play my guitar every way

A dark horse that waits to play
An emotion I can't explain
The last ticket on an express train
A quick ride on a small jet plane

This apathy drives me insane
So before I cause further pain
Get off my ass and get outta this place
And play my guitar every day

From walking to running these good times are coming

Say My Name

Written By: L. Giangrande

Another dog's day
Eternal sunshine on the darkest face
Step closer now
I can't hear its getting loud
What did you say

I don't need time to think this out
Girl you know I'm not the proud
I feel I know you
This ain't no time to question doubt
The words are forming in your mouth
Let me hear them

Will you say my name
Will you say my name

I didn't like what I'd become
80 Proof whiskey was my love
And I was drowning

Into my life you'd come
Like an angel from above
With a bolt of lightning

Will you say my name
Will you say my name

Love I stay awake into the night
And I'm looking at my life from the bright side
Come lie beside me

Girl I fear the fears you have
You know you tremble when you laugh
Are you scared of me
Are you scared?

Please don't be
Scared of me

Will you say my name

Show Me

Written By: L. Giangrande

Oh now isn't there something
An interconnected soul that we can share
Whether you're far away or within a whispers breath
The only thing that matters is that we care

Girl I never meant to ask to much of you
I never meant to make you scared
All I ever want is to be under you
Thought I was strong, to young to care

And then I saw you
Standing there

Show me
Show me
Show me another side

Show me
Show me
Show me you're not afraid

I was here, I was there
I had looked, I had stared
I have seen and I've heard
And I know that you're so fucking scared

I know you're not to dull to try
To find another side
And I hope you're not to young to try
To look past tonight

I know your'e just a party girl
You're face down
You drink enough to save the world
Or just your home town
Let me pick you up and take your hand
Once again
If you could only try to understand
The cards in my hand

And then I saw you
Standing there

Show me
Show me
Show me another side

Show me
Show me
Show me you're not afraid

So just show me
Show me
We're slowly imploding

A wise man once said life was simple
But I was young, underprepared
He said to find some love, even if a little
I thought I was strong, to young to care

Until I saw you standing there

Queen Apathy

Written By: L. Giangrande

Dear Apathy
You've forced me to surrender
To sheath my love struck arrows
And burrn my quiver

She's the queen of sorrow
Safe now, fears tomorrow
She's the queen of sorrow
Queen Apathy, I know you fear me

Cold is the castle
In which she lies
Full on Eden's apples
Poisen her mind

She's the queen of sorrow
Safe now, fears tomorrow
She's the queen of sorrow
Queen Apathy, I know you fear me

Queen Apathy
Stand alone
Surround yourself with faces
None so close

She's the queen of sorrow

24 Hours

Written By: L. Giangrande

Whatever may be fantasy
I hope you feel it
Let your dreams embrace you
Can't you hear it?
The speed of sound runs over you
But don't you fear it
You run through life like it hates you
And without it
Every moment you're dying

24 Hours..In a day
24 Hours..In the way I feel
24 Hours..All the time
24 Hours..Life rolls by

I'm dreaming

Whatever may be your tragedy
Don't let it hurt you
Find a light to protect you
From a cold night sky
With blustery eyes watch over you
And let your fear of failure
Keep you from surrender
And let you're mind run free
As long as you're trying

24 Hours..In a day
24 Hours..In the way I feel
24 Hours..All the time
24 Hours..Life rolls by

I'm dreaming

Whatever maybe your honesty
Let it guide you
To fool's gold and all your dreams
When all else fails
Reconnect with your instincts
Like your daddy told you
What you need don't come easy
So head out now son
Use what you have and sing

You'll sing...

24 Hours..In a day
24 Hours..In the way I feel
24 Hours..All the time
24 Hours..As life runs by

I'm dreaming

Well Done

Written By: L. Giangrande

LA Girl, commercial world
You're well done, under the sun

If I knew how you were strung
I wouldn't bother with conversation

You're well done
Out in the
You're well done
Out in the
Out in the sun

If I knew what to do
I wouldn't be here, neither would you

I still go out, regardless of doubt
Trying to find her, a dime in the crowd

You're well done
Out in the
You're well done
Out in the

Out in the sun
Lack of communication
And frustration
Lack of communication
and frustration

When I know, where to go
What road to follow, to get to the show

I'll fight!
