At last night's Common Council meeting, three bands were acknowledged and praised for their efforts to raise funds for the Franklin Public Library. They held a benefit concert at the library recently, which raised $1000. The children involved in the bands are from Forest Park Middle School and Franklin High School. The bands are called Dark Vortex, Midnight, and The Curb Farmers. Photos from the presentation last night are after the jump. - Franklin Today
Greenfield Library Battle of the Bands
The Greenfield Public Library hosted its second-annual Battle of the Bands to benefit the library's youth section.

"Blue Sheep", our first LP, was released in 2007 on CD produced by the band and sold on iTunes, Amazon mp3, and Napster.
Our second LP is "House of the Porcupine". It was released and copy written in 2008. Again produced by the band with sales on iTunes, iTunes Europe and Japan, and Amazon mp3.
The third album has several songs written and several in the works. We hope to finish recording and producing it by the summer. This will be our most creative so far.

Bio
Dark Vortex sprung to life in my basement while in 6th grade. I found a singer, guitar player and bassist to join me and the band was off and running and we had our first public gig within 6 months. As the band has grown creatively and professionally, a couple members have come and gone, but the core band, made of Justin W, Eli S and Henry K has remained stable through the years. We stand apart from others by writing our own songs. Dark Vortex has produced and sold two CD's of original music, with a third on the way. The first CD had a classic rock/alternative feel. With the second CD we started to use different song structures and genres, including prog, blues, jam and other different styles. Our third album is currently in the works and promises even more depth than the first two. Dark Vortex counts Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and Joe Satriani among our musical influences. We've performed at parties, talent shows and local competitions and we always get the crowd up on their feet!
