"Echoes Feature"

Dublin indie-rock duo Darling is releasing their debut EP on October 25, and we have the first track “Echoes” available for your listening pleasure. Gary Harding and James McGuire came together after their previous band fell apart, and like a couple that gives it another go – you can hear in this impassioned track that this time around they’re bound and determined to make it work.

There’s a sense of needing to prevail. The vocals are despondent, decipherable and drive the song forward. Accompanied by an aggressive percussion and incensed electric guitar, the result is a well-crafted conquest of a piece. Minute 2:20 seems like a reprieve, but the lyrics are still dramatic and dueling, “I never understood, my feelings stayed the same / you stuck me in the neck, and said that things had changed.”

With its powerful guitar rifts and charging vocals, "Echoes" is reminiscent of a track by The Police or The Killers – a smooth but screaming sensation of a song that warrants our full attention. - EARMILK.COM

"Echoes Feature"

Their new track sees them line up next to the likes of the Waylayers and The Chevin. With the interest in these bands waning as it seems not be progressing into new fields and sounds it’s very rare you find a band that really excite us. But there’s something really intriguing about the band’ sound. There’s so much hook, the chants of “Come On, Come On” plus the ergonomically fizzling synths at the end of the track really help burst the song to life. Indie rock is a dying genre, without he movement into electro bands will struggle to stay relevant. Darling are a band who look like they’re trying to move ground. Good luck to them we hope the influence others. - BLUSHINGPANDA.ORG

Darling have shared a free stream from their forthcoming EP, title and release date TBA on Believe Digital.

The duo of Gary Harding and James McGuire came together after their previous band split up. The very next morning, they sat down and mapped out everything they wanted to achieve and what they wanted to avoid with the new project. They spend the next year working out of a spare room in Harding’s parents’ house teaching each other songwriting and studying the greats. They also spend every working moment writing, recording and rehearsing.

“We confined ourselves to a studio environment for months and months with guitars and pianos, a seven-year old Mac and some glitchy software trying to write stuff that moved us and was worthy of real pop music. We listened to the giants and studied them and just wrote and wrote. We wanted to write music that would sound just as solid in 20 years,” Harding said in a statement.

Harding and McGuire recorded at a beach house on Ireland’s southern coast, a lakeside cottage in the midlands plus studios in Belfast, Kerry and Dublin.

Darling’s music caught the ear of Stephen Lipson and before long, the duo was holed up in his West London studio. - HANGINGATHEBACK

Bio

Around 2013 things began to fall into place for Darling. The morning after their previous band had fallen apart, Gary Harding and James McGuire, two young men from Dublin, sat down in a cafe and scribbled down everything they wanted to achieve and everything they wanted to avoid in a new band. The next 12 months was spent working out of the spare room in Gary’s parent’s house, teaching each the other the merits of songwriting and studying the greats. First came the tunes, then the name. During that year every bit of spare time they had was focused on writing, recording and rehearsing material they could be proud of. But Darling was never going to be a spare time kind of band.

Gary: “We confined ourselves to a studio environment for months and months with guitars and pianos, a 7-year old Mac and some glitchy software trying to write stuff that moved us and was worthy of real pop music. We listened to the giants and studied them and just wrote and wrote. We wanted to write music that would sound just as solid in 20 years.”

Writing and demo excursions also took the pair to a beach house overlooking the wild Irish sea on Ireland's southern coast, a lake-side cottage in the remote midlands as well as studios in Belfast, Kerry and Dublin.

Renowned pop producer Stephen Lipson heard a snippet of one of their demos somewhere or another. Stephen knows his hits. Many of the foremost pioneering names in popular music have entrusted their sound to Stephen, among them, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Grace Jones, Ultravox and Pet Shop Boys. Within a few weeks the boys were holed up in Steve's West London studio sprinkling magic on some demos. These sessions more than anything let them know they were on the right path. Under Steve’s expert tutelage their songs took life and a blueprint was laid down.
