Last night, I had the special opportunity to enjoy and bask in a setting and music that touched my heart and soul. Our quiet version of Johnny Cash, Darryl Martin performed at the Church/Theatre in St Jacobs. His songs were reminiscent of gospel, soul, a little folk and some rock. They were deep and caring. At times some of the songs could have been Cohen or Dylan with a Neil Young style of delivery, touching you with his lyrics and sound. His tall dark Cash image of presentation was delightful. The magnitude of his performance with 4 guitars, a key board player (or maybe aptly put ‘the’ key board player – John Lee), 3 or more accompanying chorus singers, an unbelievable sax/harmonica player and lastly the drums was truly awesome. Johnny Lee gave his usually phenomenal key board support along with a great tune. The Church/Theatre is a musical dream. The sound was at times almost heavenly. The solo sax performance brought this deep sense of peace to my soul. The sound came at you from the stage and then climbed up to the Church’s arched roof and caressed your ears and heart on its journey downward. Darryl did just a truly great performance and I dearly hope that he moves further in his musical quest.

A repeat concert in that same setting is a must for some future date and hopefully, you will come away with the sense of beauty and fulfillment of Darryl’s sound and magical down to earth charm.
