Bio

Darren and Todd Forbes grew up in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia being surrounded by the rich culture of the Island and its Scottish/Irish influences. Music was simply part of the landscape and it laid the groundwork for their future in music. Darren was always fascinated with music and lyrics. As a teenager he took up the guitar and delved into traditional folk and the folk movement of the 60's. Darren's early years as a musician would be heavily influenced by the likes of Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Eric Anderson, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Don Mclean, Harry Chapin, The Corries, Stan Rogers...just to name a few. The influences expanded and Darren had the opportunity to play with guitar players much better than himself. He eventually took up harmonica, Bagpipes, Tin whistle, Irish Bouzouki, and even the Bodhran. Darren has always written poetry and stories so it seemed only a natural progression to begin composing lyrics to the melodies he played on his guitar. It was in the words that Darren held his focus....that the music must communicate the words...and that has continued to be the basis of his musical philosophy.

Todd began on the guitar as well playing with his brother and friends in other local bands. He had often taken on the bass to fill in from time to time and it would eventually become a natural talent for him...being self taught and intuitive on creating bass lines for songs.

Neil Roston, a childhood friend of the Forbes Brothers, is an experienced musician and has played in his share of bands. His playing is heavily influenced by traditional and modern blues but takes the time to backup the Forbes Brothers when he can. It is the Cape Breton way.
