"Darren J Claxton 'Never Grow Old' EP"

t is our pleasure to introduce you, our wonderful readers, to the fantastic Mr Darren J Claxton, a talented singer-songwriter from Derby. Darren was nice enough to send us his newest EP, Never Grow Old, in the post a few days back and since then, we’ve been listening and listening on repeat.

Darren is a man of many talents; he plays all of the instruments, produces and illustrates the EP with his pictures and all of this is done to a pleasing standard, all from the comfort of his home studio. This just pushes and shoves the musical independence further, a very desirable trait in musicians these days.

Never Grow Old from the word ‘go’ showcases a diverse sound that dances between country, folk and indie acoustic with mixes of many instruments that all gel together to create these carefully crafted mellow vibes.

In the brief 16 minutes that Darren has our ears, we’re presented with soft spoken melodies mixed with care-free guitar and plenty of other instrumentation, ranging from bass, to keys and percussion. In tracks like Dragonfly, everything plays together so well, the listener just becomes encapsulated in the moments of gentle bliss.

The title track Never Grow Old, is a beautiful little track that really ties the EP together and reminds us again of what Darren is all about; his independence, his well crafted acoustic sound-scapes and something that needs to be further perused and created. The backing vox in this track are also rather special, adding even more to this already great track. - Zavive.com

"Darren J Claxton-Friends"

Darren describes himself as a folk artist who writes and plays all of his own material. But the truth is that the sound he creates crosses over out into more than just the folk music scene. Friends is a great example of this, with its old-world folky feel that is welded fast to an excellently accessible pop music sound. Darren’s been around a while, but it sounds like he’s gotten a sound together now that’ll work for him. Darren records everything himself on his own at home on a porta studio but it sounds like it's come out of Abbey Road so we think his production talents should get a mention also. Proper songwriter at his best.....excellent. this was a review of my track friends. - matchbox recordings/dave chislett
