Lyrics

2nd St Cantina

Written By: Darren Keith

It’s hard to pass that cantina on 2nd Street
I know you've been there without me
we started with a few margaritas a few times a week
and soon I was tripping over your things

We had some great times, didn’t we?
the flashbacks have been killing me
it was such a beautiful thing

I finally tossed your movies out on the street
they’ve been sitting on the TV
I really thought that you’d come back for them
but it was me you didn’t want to see

We had some great times, didn’t we?
The flashbacks have been killing me
It was such a beautiful thing

So why am I standing outside of your place?
I should be going home
before she notices I'm gone

Bitch Kitty

Written By: Darren Keith

Oh, what a bitch kitty
I need to walk away
but you've made it so difficult for me
so sweet
in that candy-coated shell
but you're still rotten underneath
and you dug your claws down in so deep
that I have scars running up and down the length of me
and I'm beat and tired of being used
and feeling like the soul of a worn out shoe

And now I gotta do what I've gotta do
I've got to cut you loose
before you put me through
oh what a bitch kitty

Pretty sad to think about it
how much pleasure you got
from my misery
this is the end of the line
for you, my ugly valentine
I hated myself for caving in
and giving into your every whim
but what was I supposed to do
when you tasted so damn good?

And now I gotta do what I've gotta do
it's time to cut you loose
before you put me through
oh what a bitch kitty

Oh so mean
how you'd lift me up
just so you could knock me down
and kick me
while I'm begging and pleading on the ground
you've supplied just shy of burying me
just enough to keep me always coming back around
with my desperate, desperate needs

And now I gotta do what I gotta do
I’ve got to cut you loose
before you put me through
oh what a bitch kitty

Best Year of My Life

Written By: Darren Keith

It's 12:01
I’m sad and drunk
and stumbling through the words to Auld Lang Syne
everyone's lit up like Christmas trees
and I can’t imagine why
there goes the best year of my life

I should’ve known
things were going too well
I know I’m not that lucky of a guy
at my feet is a bed of confetti
and I want to lay down and cry
'cause there goes the best year of my life

There's no consolation
at the bottom of this bottle of champagne
tommorow it’ll be gone and I'll still have this pain
This happens everytime,
so it comes as no surprise
I guess I’ll see you next year
Maybe I’ll see you next year

Madison

Written By: Darren Keith

The pipes have froze again
the cold has little sympathy
these old windows need new panes
though there's nothing here to see

This place has had better days
and even that is going back some ways
but it's all I’ve got
I've already given up so much
Madison

Most of the roads are closed
another hard one fell today
they're digging out the cars
that are trying to get some place

They ask me why I never leave
sometimes I say it's gravity
one day I might
but that's so far away from us
Madison

Nothing much happens here
things are few and far between
even the solitude
has been known to look for company

I know it doesn't seem like I have much
the truth is that I feel like I am stuck
but I couldn't stay there
'cause
there
wasn't
enough
love
Madison

Levees

Written By: Darren Keith

Nothings gonna stop this flood
and we have nowhere else to go
Even God don't hear you
when you're poor and six feet below

There was pain long before this rain came down

Levees break here all the time

Mercy on us helpless souls
'cause there's no help on the way
'aint no different than it used to be
and it's never gonna change

There was pain long before this rain came down

Levees break here all the time
