Bio

Darrin Love is a singer, songwriter and guitar player from Houston, TX. After his master class in touring clubs, festivals and showcases throughout high school, Darrin attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA before leaving to write what would become his debut EP, A Reckless Heart.

"I heard the whisper of a little white lie and promises of life, but it was death in disguise," sings Love on "Vampires", the fourth track on the EP. "It seems we're all being sold the same bill of goods, and people keep buying into it," he claims, reluctantly. "It's like recycled oppression."

A Reckless Heart takes a hard look at the ambivalence and indifference of his generation, which at times seems too weary or apathetic to pursue love, their dreams, or even self-growth. "It's an interesting time we're living in right now," Love says. "It's all about instant gratification, and it's hard to imagine life before cell phones, the internet, and social networking" he adds. "Somewhere along the way we got lost, and instead of trying to find our way back, we lose ourselves further just for the sake of being lost," he laughs in disbelief. "And that just seems crazy to me!"

Whatever the inspiration may be for the EP, there's no question as to what the songs convey. "The social landscape has completely changed in the last ten years. I don't think there's anyone to blame for that, and I think we'll adjust accordingly, but it would certainly be nice to have a handbook to refer to every once in awhile."

Lost or not, Love has certainly found a voice for the group of songs he's penned for A Reckless Heart. His virtuosic guitar playing, refined song writing and honest vocal delivery all speak for themselves. From the catchy, heartfelt opener "Wake Up", to the trials and tribulations of love lost, love found on "Lucie Valentine" and "A Reckless Heart", the tough times chronicled in "Hard Luck Blues", and the declaration of self-worth found on "Vampires", everything seems to be in it's right place.

A Reckless Heart was produced by Eric Jarvis and recorded by grammy award winning engineer Steve Christensen (Steve Earle), Billy Harvey (Bob Schneider, Charlie Mars), and Brad Bell (Spoon, Charlie Sexton). It features Darrin on guitar and vocals and an impressive group of musicians including Matt Johnson (St. Vincent, Jeff Buckley) and JJ Johnson (John Mayer, Gary Clark Jr.) on drums, Kevin Lovejoy (Spoon, Kat Edmonson) on keys, Eric Jarvis on bass and mandolin, and Tommy Detamore on pedal steel.
