"Music Injection"

“‘My Name’ by Darryl Morris is another great example of his introspective nature of his music. His goal is to share thought-provoking concepts through his music. With both singles that I have reviewed I believe he has reached that goal however don’t say that too loudly as we want Darryl to keep making this amazing music! ‘My Name’ is an introspective song regarding a relationship, or lack of, with this father. There are people that can relate to this. I encourage you to listen to the song here.” - Music Injection (Jul 16, 2018) - Music Injection

"TUNEDCLOUD"

“Clever use of lyrics and the cadence of words to create a captivating melody are a feature of this song and an indication that we are listening to a very special tune here. A big beat thumps behind Morris’ strong, clear vocals in the chorus, and there is a lyrical wisdom that could only come from someone who has observed the afflictive experience of growing up without a father, from close up. His vocals are authentic while the music compliments his voice rather than seeking to overtake him. It’s a message of despair, but also one of undying hope – an honest plea for a family and unity. “My Name” is a song for everyone to own, and cements Darryl Morris as one of the few legitimate heirs to the modern singer-songwriter Throne.”

"Music for your Heart"

“Somewhere between folk, americana, and pop-rock, this ballad by Darryl Morris will hit you with a catchy melody and powerful lyrics. Darryl's voice is exceptional and will give you the chills you need. The video is very well done and has a small 90's side that will delight the nostalgic people of that time. And it's a bit normal, because the song was posted 11 years ago. But fortunately, the Internet keeps traces of talent and emotions forever. Darryl Morris is a diamond. To listen very loud. - Music For Your Heart (Jul 20, 2018) - Music for your Heart

"Rock The Pigeon Review"

“We wanted to take a moment today to flash back to a song that was released on Youtube over 10 years ago. It’s called “My Name” by a courageous singer-songwriter Darryl Morris. The song that was originally released in 2007 has been released again this past June. It’s a song that brings awareness to growing up without a father, growing up impoverished, and growing up oppressed. Even though the honest song has really sad lyrical and musical moments, there is a sense of hope in the song. Darryl Morris comes off as a grateful man, appreciating the opportunities and experiences he has had, and speaks about continuing to move on and climb up the ladder. This is Darryl Morris first public release since uploading the music video in 2007. Enjoy!” - Ryan Cassata, Rock The Pigeon BLOG (Jul 01, 2018) - Rock The Pigeon

"JJ Kane Radio Show"

"Stereo Stickman"

"It’s a sad story that could easily lend itself to a much more melodramatic vocal and sound, but Darryl Morris is such an expert storyteller that not only does he not rely on these cliché tropes; he shies away from them entirely. This gives a tale we’ve all heard time and time again a refreshing new twist and paints the picture in an entirely different light." - Larry Iaccio, Stereo Stickman (Jul 07, 2018) - Stereo Stickman

"New Lease Music Blog"

“DARRYL MORRIS Folk singer/songwriter DARRYL MORRIS delivers a stunning piece into today’s hotspot through single ‘My Name’. Taking strong influences from the likes of Dr. Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Angela Davis, Jimi Hendrix and Freddie Mercury, Darryl shares his thought-provoking perspectives, with fresh insight, through the lyrical standard of heavyweights such as James Taylor, Tracy Chapman, Bernie Taupin, and John Waite. ‘My Name’ is one of songs that stop you in your tracks, as a result of his undeniable ability to tell a heart-tugging story of his childhood. Absolutely stunning…have a listen before you head out…” - Tracey Dawkins, New Lease Music Blog (Jun 29, 2018) - New Lease Music Blog

"Tumblr"

“Darryl Morris Band is back on the scene with his new music video, offering a stunning visual complement to a single titled “My Name.” The song is a stunning combination of pop, folk and R&B, driven by Darryl’s passionate lyrics and stunning melodies. “My Name” is a earnest and spontaneous song that opens up with Darryl’s charismatic and soulful voice, which echoes the work of artists such as diverse as Seal and Ed Sheeran, only to mention a few. The acoustic guitar, slide licks and banjo rhythms also add a really amazing country/Americana backdrop to the track, while the arrangement and energetic rhythm section have ties to pop and rock. Darryl’s lyrics are emotional and personal, as he tells a powerful story to the listeners through his poignant verses and uplifting chorus lines. Darryl once again demonstrated that he can create songs that defy genre definitions and categories, combining different influences, while retaining a very direct and refreshingly simple ap” - Peter Vidani, Tumblr (Jun 19, 2018) - Tumblr

"Music Connection Magazine"

"Smooth and soulful, this singer/songwriter's organic, heartfelt vibe comes across like Bob Seger in a low-key mode. "California Blue" and "Hollywood" express yearning and disillusionment. Perhaps most affecting, though, is Morris' "My Name," which addresses a child's abandonment by his father - Music Connection Magazine - Music Connection Magazine
