"Music Review by Jason Randall Smith"

"I Can Do Anything" is lifted from the Microphone Madness: Epidemic Edition compilation, a hip-hop release that uses its music to raise money for a good cause. All proceeds go towards the San Francisco AIDS Walk Foundation, dispelling the myth that this genre is solely interested in self gain. The featured singer is Dashi, displaying perfect pitch and a powerful vocal delivery. Belting out notes with conviction and sincerity, even the most pessimistic person among us will be ready to move mountains by the time this song is done.

Dashi teamed up with Tyson Martin to form Dream Music Hits, an apt title for their production duo. Starting off simple with the flat thump of a kick drum and the snap of a snare, the song quickly becomes more lush in its orchestration. Light turntable manipulation emphasizes the hip-hop lean of the beat, but R&B lies at the heart of this single. Dashi carries the tune on a guardian angel's wings, protective and supportive of all those in danger of letting their dreams die. The arrangement is deceptively rich, slowly unveiling its many layers and coaxing the listener into its intricacies. Strong piano chords emit an air of triumph as a flute dances just below the surface of the mix. Listen closely and you can hear an accordion filling in the sonic gaps. Lyrically motivational, the song encourages people to push past their insecurities and less-than-ideal circumstances in order to discover their potential and purpose. The appearance of a gospel chorus is a wonderful and necessary addition, reaffirming the spiritual essence of the composition.

Towards the song's conclusion, Dashi encourages the listener to "take your frame of a picture and turn it into your every desire," a beautiful sentiment from a truly gifted voice. More authentic than R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly," this song is more than an AIDS Walk anthem. "I Can Do Anything" contains a message that everyone from age eight to eighty can benefit from.
