Bio

Das Muerte is an independent heavy rock quartet from Boston. The band fuses elements of funk, rockabilly, reggae and other genres to a hard rocking backbone, creating an eclectic collage, a reflection of the band’s various musical interests.

Formed in Boston in early 2011, the band consists of drummer Euz Azevedo, guitarist Justin Garrette, bassist Andrew Simpson and vocalist Phil Desisto.

Das Muerte’s self-titled debut EP was recorded at Q Division Studios by Joe Tooley, during the fall of 2011 and released in March 2012 on iTunes. The EP contains five songs, approximately 25 minutes of material. Das Muerte sought after local artists to collaborate with the EP packaging. Boston illustrator Jeff Desrosiers designed the EP’s cover art and came up with the Das Muerte character that was later adopted as the band’s mascot.

The band launched 3 music videos with their self-titled EP. “Only Shoot When Necessary” was the first song to receive a video. Nick Norrman, a student at The New England Art Institute, created the low budget production. The video was shot at the band’s studio with a handheld camera and resulted in a gritty, dark and surprisingly well-put together DIY video. For their second video, “Byzantium,” the band went to the other end of the spectrum by hiring Matt McDermitt, a LA-based videographer whose works include collaborations with Backstreet Boyz and Jay-Z.
The video was shot at one of Euz’s restaurants, and the result was a glossy, luxe, professional grade video that, while having a “pop music” look, simultaneously delivered the band’s raw, heavy rock soundtrack. The third video, “Feeding You The Cure,” was a collage of live performances shot by local videographer Nathan Quattrini, who followed the band around as they toured Boston’s local rock venues.

Most recently, Das Muerte went back to Q Division Studios to record their second EP with Joe Tooley, to be released in the Fall 2013. The band continued their signature look by reconnecting with illustrator Jeff Desrosiers. For their debut video, Das Muerte hired Phil Mucci, award winning music videographer whose works include High on Fire, Pig Destroyer, Opeth, Korn and Huntress. The band’s first video, “All Those Delicate Cuts,” will be released in the Fall 2013 as a single, pre-album release.
