How’s it going folks? Last time I conducted on of these interviews it was with the California based rap collective OFWGKTA. A lot of you guys enjoyed the Interview and i garnered a whole bunch of positive(and some negative) feedback. But nonetheless it has been a while and i decided to come bring this interview home, as in New York City for all of my readers who live here. But without further adieu i give you the interview with Brooklyn’s own G.R.A.M.Z - Inner City Kids

"Cupcakes review"

Here’s the story behind this guy: I met him at the (2)Dope Holiday party back in December, as he is an associate of (2)dope mainstay ScienZe. I’ve gotten his songs (actually pretty good) subsequently since then, but because of whatever reason I never got around to posting them. Now he’s dropped his latest project, and I’m not gonna go by without showing this cat some shine. My bad, dog.

"Brooklyn Emcee, G.R.A.M.Z. clarifies his moniker, talks 4Fun, “No $ 4/20 II”"

Brooklyn by way of The Bronx Emcee, G.R.A.M.Z. spoke to #BodegaRadio on PNCRadio.fm this past Friday about the meaning behind the name of his most recent project, Cupcakes. “[J Dilla] called his beats “Donuts” and I call my songs “Cupcakes,” says the 4Fun front man. “They’re like audible treats. I call it “baked goods” and “baked goods” is not, like, cake and frosting and shit. “Baked goods” is weed. “Baked goods” is music.”
G.R.A.M.Z. also discussed the origins and meaning behind his moniker “It says G.R.A.M.Z. but it stands for Gradually Reviving All MuZik,” he says.
“That name was given to me in Brooklyn, NYC. I was given that name because of what I was about and what I did. I just happened to turn it into an acronym so I could make it mean more than what it is because people hear G.R.A.M.Z. and they automatically think drug reference. People have told me that they heard my name and initially was not willing to hear me…I don’t wanna be labeled as a drug rapper or a mixtape rapper. I don’t want to be synonymous with that. I want to be known as an artist.”
Following the January 2011 of Cupcakes, G.R.A.M.Z. is set to release No $ On 4/20 II on April 20 as well as Todd’s Tape later this year. His collective, 4Fun also has several projects scheduled for 2011. “Everything that I’m doing is planned,” says G.R.A.M.Z. “Docky Boy is coming out with his album. We coming out with the SkyDive Suicide Set album. Everything is planned out…I’ve seen so many dudes fuck up that I feel like I can’t fuck up.” - Brooklyn Bodega

"SNEAKER MUSIC REVIEW"

Ill rhymer and Brooklyn, NYer, Gramz drops a mixtape for all the sneaker freakers out there. With a laid back flow and jazzy backdrop, G gets busy with the wordplay and takes you on a trip through his hood (and a lil' beyond, "Night of the Beach Crusier" explains more). A few times on this project I had to do a double take beatwise. "Summer Breeze" is just that, light and airy for us winter battered East Coasters. The man that touched the track up is a brother named Lee Bueller, be on the look out for him. As for Gramz on the lyrical tip he is a solid MC with loads of potential. The more he syncs with Bueller and the way he rocked over a J. Dilla masterpiece on "Her Fresh" is the way he should go. I think if he goes with a Sneaker Music pt.2, he should weave the kicks theme in a lil' tighter. And I trust by the time that comes out, he'll be even iller. - DATWON THOMAS FOR GLOBALGRIND.COM

Bio

Brooklyn Hip-Hop artist, G.R.A.M.Z, establishes himself with music that can easily be bumped anywhere from Soho lounges to gritty 4AM basement parties. "Revolution is life. Everyday you should wake up feeling like you want to innovate and start something new." Wanting to be associated with more that just street references, G.R.A.M.Z describes his name as also being an acronym for "gradually revolving around music." While it is quite rare for an artist to have such a wide scope and remain convincing, G.R.A.M.Z stands out as an emcee that can play in both realms while maintaining a real sense of authenticity in every aspect.

It is this vibrant energy that allows him to blend raw lyrics, drum and snare house kits, and dub step sounds that is sure to ignite the party. The positive energy also carries over into his regard for upcoming rappers in his class. He states that he is part of a new renaissance of young artists who aren't afraid to take creative risks while at the same time revitalizing its roots.

He's also been supported musically by the likes of Flatbush Zombies, Ski Beatz, The Cool Kids and A$AP Mob just to name a few. G.R.A.M.Z has also been supported by brands like LRG, Rocksmith, Good Wood and a host of other industry insiders.
