"The Hot Spot: Xtra Ticket"

Every weekend I bounce around from bar to bar, checking out the music, dancing a lot and making new friends. And I have come to the realization that Annie's Attic/Coyote Joe's has definitely become one of my most favorite places to be. I just feel very comfortable there, upstairs or downstairs. Both places are very charming in their own way, and the staff is very friendly. Definitely a great place for women who are out and about all alone! It really feels very safe there, and that is one of the determining factors for me.

So of course I went and saw Sir Harrison Band at the Drunken Lass on Friday. But the special treat this past weekend was definitely at Annie's Attic in the form of Xtra Ticket'! Before I tell you about this band, let me say this: In my opinion tribute bands are either really, really good ... or really, really bad. For me, there exists no gray area. Xtra Ticket is a Grateful Dead tribute band, and while these guys are not trying to physically emulate Jerry Garcia et al, musically they manage to convincingly resurrect a kind of 60's ambience that many thought lost a long time ago.

Evan Jones (who on stage channels his inner Bob Weir) founded Xtra Ticket in 1994 and provides rhythm guitar and vocals. On lead guitar you will find Dave A'Bear, a 30-year musical veteran who has been with the band from the beginning. His vocal abilities are rock solid. I loved listening to him belting out those Grateful Dead tunes. Guy Ivester, who joined Xtra Ticket five years ago, lays down a wicked bass line for sure and Charlie Gnecco on the drums displays a very nice energy, pulling everything together perfectly. Rounding out this fantastic band is Elliot Rauch. He joined in 2005, and he is a magician on those keyboards. These guys are really outstanding. They perform well together, and it is very clear that they absolutely love what they're doing. Residing in Arizona, they tour all over the state, having regular gigs at different venues. Annie's Attic hosts them on the first Friday of every month.

And it is very apparent that they have a solid fan base comprised of all age groups ... young, old, and everything in between. The dance floor was as packed as I have ever seen it, and the mood was amazingly gregarious. People were dancing with each other, with complete strangers or alone. Friendships were forged easily, and everybody just got along. I had a wonderful time listening to this band, and I highly recommend that everyone check them out at least once. I promise you won't regret it.

So mark your calendars: Xtra Ticket will return to Annie's Attic on March 4. Come and relive some memories, but more importantly, make some new ones! Oh and FYI, somewhere along the way I lost my voice over the weekend. If you happen to find it, kindly return it to its rightful owner! - Prescott Newspapers, Inc. - http://theazedge.com/

Bio

Currently I am on tour with Melvin Seals and JGB. I am scaling back my personal band projects for now. I will entertain any interest so feel free to contact me.

My band is basically music to serve the jam. I write and select music to explore new and challenging aspects. I play with talented musicians that can communicate on a sonic level, and who are prepared to change at a moments notice.

I come from a musical family. My Grandfather, my father constantly wrote songs for us as children growing up. My brothers and I formed a band as soon as we could. In those days it was heavy metal and Pink Floyd that we emulated. Then a stint with reggae, jazz, bluegrass and all types of rock. But as we matured we drifted towards the music that we grew up with - the music of the Allman Brothers and the Grateful Dead.

What sets my band apart is the versatility. I can play as a solo act, a full band with percussionist, a keyboardist with a Hammond and back up singers. My music spans quite a few genres.
