"Perfect Present"

The acoustic guitar former Mosman Park musician Dave Anderson got for his 17th birthday has turned out to be the best present he ever received.

The singer/songwriter now lives in Sydney where he has built a steady following with his heartfelt acoustic originals.

He will return home to play his first ever WA gig at Mojo's North Fremantle on Saturday June 10.

Inspired by Juan Alban of Epicure and Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, Anderson describes his songs are emotive rather than just relating a story.

"Men are notoriously bad at showing their emotions and I feeel that I can communicate via music, by writing adn playing about what I feel," he said.

"I get a lot of pleasure out of writing songs that people can connect to."

Anderson played piano as a child, but it was when his mother bought him a guitar that his musicial talents really started to develop.

"I always loved music and was one of those kids who knew all of the lyrics to the songs," he said.

"WHen I got the guitar I was able to start working out some simple tuens of my own."

He studied for a sports science degree and later an MBA at UWA, before spending three years in London, where his musical career flourished.

Egged on by friends, who loved his music, he eventually secured a residency at a bar in London.

"I learned a lot about gigging and playing during that time because I used to perform for two or three hours at a time," he said.

London's Timout Magazine likened Anderson's uncomplicated style to Damien Rice, which he said was "hugely flattering". - Western Suburbs Weekly

Bio

Chased a dream, had your heart completely obliterated or just been to scared to use it? Things you should have said, things you should have done? If you have then you'll definitely relate to the moving and emotive lyrics from this young performer.

Born and bred in Perth and spending the obligatory time in London in his twenties, Dave has built up a repertoire of original music reflecting onthe experiences that most of us have but few can translate into such raw and expressive tunes. A musical style unlike many others, organic and honest, taking you back through your past and geting you thinking about the future, all at the same time.

After a couple of years playing solo in jazz clubs and pubs across Australia and overseas, this year Dave has decided to take things to the next level adding keys, strings and percussion to what was already a captivating performance.

You have to experience this - self-penned confessions from what feels like a close friend, expect to be stirred.
