"Dave & Marissa: …Move on"

“Brooklyn & Mass.” two places I need to see are captured in one of the fantastic four on Dave & Marissa’s new EP …Move on. It’s not every day a man’s vocals are more melodic than his female counterpart, but in this east coast anthem, Marissa has a more brash sound that takes control of the situation. It reminded me of the little bohemian The Glass Child. The to and from between Dave and Marissa kind of mirrored the traveling one would do between the two cities. - Golden Mixtape

"Dave & Marissa! // Hit Like Waves"

Local folk rockers Dave & Marissa! have taken their time getting their second EP released. Their first effort, …Explain It All, was released in August of 2010, and since then, the then-trio has expanded in numbers to five. Their newest effort, …Move On, is a four song glimpse of what they’ve all been doing over the intervening 18 months or so, as its accompanied by a set of B-sides that were also recorded during the making of the EP. So while four songs might not seem like a lot of output for the past year and a half, it’s really more like ten when both the EP and B-sides are factored in.

…Move On comes out this Thursday, when the band has a release show at Bug Jar, opening up for Joywave and Old Tapes. The EP and the accompanying B-sides release will be available at their shows, and probably on Bandcamp; until then, below find the track “Hit Like Waves,” which showcases the easy Americana folk and glorious harmonies of the band’s namesakes. - Tympanogram

"DAVE & MARISSA: “HIT LIKE WAVES”"

Dave & Marissa are a folk-Americana group out of Rochester, New York, and they are endorsed by Tympanogram, undoubtedly one of the best music blogs out there. The male-female vocal harmony here is something special, and it’s easy to appreciate these introspective lyrics when they’re backed by such a solid, earnest melody. “Hit Like Waves” is a B-side to Dave & Marissa’s forthcoming sophomore EP …Move On, and the song has some interesting little twists — an off-kilter chorus to bridge transition, for example — and its rough edges make it all the more inviting. "Dave and Marissa Open The Night"

"Finger Lakes Community College's alumni Marissa Longstreet and Dave Berger of the band Dave and Marissa opened the night of music at the FLCC's Honors House in Hopewell on Thursday March 24, 2011." - The Daily Messenger

Bio

For the first two years of their existence as a band, Dave & Marissa's focus was simply on their songs, songwriting, and relationship with fans. Having freshly brewed motivation to delve into the business side of the industry, this has provided an upper hand as they have crafted a solid foundation in their music, rather than purely marketing themselves.

Dave & Marissa have the ability to simplify (without reducing the quality of) their set in order to appease crowds and venues of all sorts. While the majority of the time Dave & Marissa function as a full band, they began their performing life in coffee shops and open mics, and continue to visit these environments.

Each member of this band has vastly different influences, yet formulate as a venn diagram, meeting together in a similar circle. This is what has allowed Dave & Marissa to have a completely limitless sound, and to be entirely open to new ideas from each part of the band. The most definite sum up of the band has been said as this: "Dave and Marissa bring out treasures old and new to command our rapt attention. With wry insight, their melodies and musings lilt over tall buildings in single bounds, playfully tease at all tired notions of harmony and tempo, and capably endear fans to their distinctive mix of storytelling, theatrics, and musical good sport."

Dave and Marissa take care with their songs, at times putting them aside for months at a time until they have come about into something they are proud to call theirs. They have something special to share with you, and only ask that you listen.
