"4 Star review"

4 Stars

"Not only does it highlight Barrie's knack for a killer melody and hook, it also shows a vulnerability and emotion not often heard on a debut EP" - The Beast Magazine

"Review"

"Don't Break highlights Barrie's talents as a performer. The five radio friendly tracks are emotive, epic, swampy and melodic...Opening track Waiting For You is a standout. The vocal is warm and present, the mood intimate" - South Sydney Herald

Bio

Brisbane and Sydney based singer songwriter Dave Barrie released his debut 5 track EP ‘Don’t Break’ in September 2009. Not one to sit idly as life passes by, the former band manager sold out of his 400 copies by the end of the year. Through the AMRAP (Australian Regional Airplay Project) service Barrie received an overwhelming response from regional radio around Australia who immediately began playing songs from the EP. Coast FM in Gosford named him as Independent Artist of the week. It was on the back of this success and by having the song ‘Waiting For You’ playing in hundreds of cafes across Australia in the Aussie compilation Cd ‘Sounds Like Cafe’ that Barrie began touring regularly in 2009.

Further success came late in 2009 when ‘Waiting For You’ was named as a Top 5 finalist in the fiercely competitive USA ‘Song Of The Year’ contest. As a result, his music was sent to hundreds of indie and major labels, managers, publishers, agents etc throughout the US. And locally the same song came eighth in the industry judged Songwriting Society of Australia’s Top 10 song contest in early 2010. His song ‘Deadly Like a Shotgun’ was also a finalist out of thousands of entrants in the Great American Song Contest in 2010.

Proudly standing under the pop rock umbrella, Barrie’s music takes influence from Neil Young, Ryan Adams, Keith Urban, Rob Thomas, John Mayer, Dave Matthews, Live, INXS, Pearl Jam and Goo Goo Dolls among others. The young singer songwriter has a great sense of melody, mature thought provoking lyrics and creative musicianship.

Barrie performs regularly throughout Sydney and tours between Brisbane and Sydney every few months building a solid fanbase in both capital cities and in regional areas. He has played at the Coogee Arts Festival, She Festival, Australian Music Day Festival, Canberra Music Festival and at great venues including The Supper Club, Raval and The Globe Theatre.

Throughout early 2010, Barrie hit the studio again with Sean Carey (ex Thirsty Merc) armed with 7 great new original tracks. Bringing with him the confidence of having regularly performed live and having released his first EP in 2009, Barrie honed his skills as one of Australia’s brightest new singer songwriters in the passionate modern rock genre. His second EP titled ‘The Storm’ will be released in October 2010.

“4 stars - Don’t Break highlights not only Barrie’s knack for a killer melody and hook but also shows a vulnerability and emotion not often heard on a debut EP” (The Beast ’09).
