"Ali-Cats Acoustic Club Number 27"

Next up was Dave Blackwell, whom I had seen at The Live Music Zooberon a couple of months back. With his setlist stuck to the back of his guitar, giving a few logistical issues, Dave launched with a fine cover of Johnny Cash’s False Imprisonment.

Dave has a folky sound and look, and his first original of the night, Westcountry, was a folk number about a couple of his friends. It was a slow, lovely and somewhat sad little piece.

Bouquets and Candles, his third song, was described as “a cheesy one” but I’ve heard much cheesier. Dave had a few capo issues, which he fixed fairly subtly, before the capo fell entirely to pieces at the end of the song. Luckily, Ali-Cats host Robin flew to the rescue with a spare one.

Dave continued with a sweet cover of I Need A Dollar before two new songs – one he had just written about End of the Road festival, and an “angry” modern-themed number with an undertone echoing the recent riots. - Bad Bunny Bites Back
