BandFolkAlternative

It's not every day a career drummer picks up a mic, a guitar and a harmonica. Meet Dave Bradshaw a talented Tasmanian singer, award winning songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Aussie Folk Rock / Pop with that Indie edge...

Biography

Dave was recently selected as a finalist in the “Best Up and Coming Original Tasmanian Act” Category of the 2006 Amplified awards (an annual festival recognising excellence in Tasmanian original music) and in addition, his song “Vindication” was selected for the Amplified festival showcase CD. He has recently supported Queensland act Holloway Street on their Tasmanian tour and at the Tamworth and Gympie festivals. He will see the year out with shows around Sydney and Tasmania and at the Taste of Tasmania Summer Festival in December.

Dave writes melodic acoustic guitar based music melding deep lyrical messages with structured form. His songs characteristically provide observations on life experiences, with an undercurrent of social commentary.

Through an innovate use of custom-made triggers, Dave has mastered a solo performance delivering striking vocals, warm guitars, harmonica and percussive instruments simultaneously. The resulting show is not only pleasing to the ear but also wonderfully different and visually stimulating. Dave’s act is a solid performance, derived from over a dozen years’ experience delivering music live throughout Tasmania and Australia.

Dave's many and varied style influences include Cat Stevens, The Beatles, Radiohead, U2, Crowded House, Simon & Garfunkel, Elton John - and the big Neils - Neil Diamond and Neil Young.

Lyrics

Wordsmith

Written By: Dave Bradshaw

Wordsmith, craft me the words for her
No words exist that are worthy of

Locksmith, turn me a key to my heart
Lock in this feeling that comes from above

Win back the time we mislaid in our lives
Flow, flow, feelings I cannot describe
Lost, lost, losing my soul in her eyes
My words can’t honour her beauty inside

Songsmith, dream up a tune for our love
Sounds to remind us the way we feel now

Starman, chart me a sun in the sky
Charge it, to watch over her from on high

Win back the time we mislaid in our lives
Flow, flow, feelings I cannot describe
Lost, lost, I’m losing my soul in her eyes
My words can’t honour her beauty inside
My words can’t honour her beauty inside

The Key

Written By: Dave Bradshaw

A door leads into me
A door into my world
I’m cutting you a key
Sure that any other man would too would too

Close the door behind
Come into my life
The two of us combine
Sure that any other man would too

I gave you a key
And you turned my world from black
But I did not forsee
You’d give it back

Few have been before
A total on one hand
Your presence I adore
Sure that any other man would too would too

Humid sweet your breath
Forgotten is my pain
I could get used to it
Sure that any other man would too go down

I gave you a key
And you turned my world from black
But I did not forsee
You’d give it back

You have made your choice
Our cup has been upset
But I won’t change the lock just yet

I gave you a key
And you turned my world from black
I gave all of me
See my heart strings were attached
But I did not forsee
You’d give it back

Perfect Picture

Written By: Dave Bradshaw

I must learn enough about me
Enough to understand it
I have lived my life complete
Not the way I planned it

I've made myself some enemies
Values have demanded
I have turned the other cheek
And that's the way I landed

Painted a picture in my mind
Can't get this picture from my mind

Our knack for violence bothers me
And the way we treat this planet
Greed drives our society
I don't think I can stand it

Painted a picture in my mind
Can't get this picture from my mind

I have learned enough about me
Enough to understand it
Haven't lived my life complete
That's the way I planned it

Painted a picture in my mind
To realise this picture will take some time
I'd rather see this picture from outside

Landslide

Written By: Dave Bradshaw

Love is a madman, hell bent on winning the day
With reckless abandon, we follow as he leads the way
Next time I will take time and risk that the moment will fade
I’d fly on solo, but fit to do battle again

I won't get caught
I won't get caught
Caught in the landslide x3

Words can be spoken, spoken but needn't be heard
Promises broken, shattered for all they are worth
Time is a healer, how much is ours to give?
Our fate should be questioned; the answers decide how we live

Did God make emotions, to keep us from learning the game?
If trust is a virtue, the virtuous first to be slain?

I won't get caught x3
I’ve been burned before
Caught in the landslide x6
