As too many artists today focus on songs with little to no meaning, it is clearly obvious that Shaken understand the message in the song is what music is really about with lyrics from their real every day lives.

Biography

SHAKEN is a San Francisco Bay Area band that started in the spring of 2002. The band’s purpose has been from the beginning to generate music with new blends of ska, folk-rock and alt-rock. This ballsy mix of musical styles creates a unique new sound that the band has been wielding to “shake” up the music scene in Northern California. The music is high energy and soulful sweet from a band that has everything to say about the pros and cons of relationships.
Many people have compared Shaken to No Doubt, Sarah McLachlan, The Pretenders and Sheryl Crow. Their musical influences delve deeper then that and include Ani Difranco, U2, Iron Maiden, Chaka Khan, Black Sabbath, The Police, Liz Phair, Rush, Bloc Party, Anthrax, Coheed and Cambria, Lamb of God, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Joni Mitchell, A Perfect Circle, Miles Davis, Ivy, Tower of Power, Otep, The Grateful Dead, Brad Paiseley, Shadows Fall, and Dierks Bently. Listen closely and you can hear each one of them. Shaken isn’t afraid to experiment and while their core is “rock based”, they refuse to let themselves be limited to one style of music. Jill Pagliaro, ‘Mega’ Dave Henderson, ‘Mini’ Dave Jurgens and Andy Smith believe they should be innovative but not duplicative. But above all have fun, enjoy the moment, and entertain all those who come to watch and listen.

This theme is obvious in their new CD titled Prose and Cons. The band serves up a blistering ska-punk shot of energy with the song La Di Da, a song about not worrying about what has happened yesterday and enjoying the moment, partying, and having fun. The album also focuses on serious subjects such as child abuse with Yesterday’s Gone. Yet another topic is covered with Wasting Time, which talks about people who from day one planned to leave a relationship but still waste your time by staying in it anyway

Lyrics

Forgotten Man

Written By: Dave Jurgens

Verse

It seems like yesterday
Daddy’s life faded away
I buried him at his home
And cried on his tombstone.
Even though that was so long ago
And he’s never coming back
I wish he was here for one more day
So he could hear me say.

Chorus

I can face tomorrow but not today
Now there’s a better way
That will make me stay
FAR away, from your MEMORY
Each and every day
Forgotten MAN
Forgotten man.

Verse

Haunting lies, tricks with mind
Ghosts dance on the shadow of time
I seek another time, another place
Another way to face the day

Chorus

I can face tomorrow but not today
Now there’s a better way
That will make me stay
FAR away, from your MEMORY
Each and every day
Forgotten MAN
Forgotten man.

Bridge

Pride was my downfall
Aimin’ to please
Why is it I find that
Wherever I go, there you ARE?
There you ARE?

Solo

Repeat Chorus
