Bio
SHAKEN is a San Francisco Bay Area band that started in the spring of 2002. The band’s purpose has been from the beginning to generate music with new blends of ska, folk-rock and alt-rock. This ballsy mix of musical styles creates a unique new sound that the band has been wielding to “shake” up the music scene in Northern California. The music is high energy and soulful sweet from a band that has everything to say about the pros and cons of relationships.
Many people have compared Shaken to No Doubt, Sarah McLachlan, The Pretenders and Sheryl Crow. Their musical influences delve deeper then that and include Ani Difranco, U2, Iron Maiden, Chaka Khan, Black Sabbath, The Police, Liz Phair, Rush, Bloc Party, Anthrax, Coheed and Cambria, Lamb of God, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Joni Mitchell, A Perfect Circle, Miles Davis, Ivy, Tower of Power, Otep, The Grateful Dead, Brad Paiseley, Shadows Fall, and Dierks Bently. Listen closely and you can hear each one of them. Shaken isn’t afraid to experiment and while their core is “rock based”, they refuse to let themselves be limited to one style of music. Jill Pagliaro, ‘Mega’ Dave Henderson, ‘Mini’ Dave Jurgens and Andy Smith believe they should be innovative but not duplicative. But above all have fun, enjoy the moment, and entertain all those who come to watch and listen.
This theme is obvious in their new CD titled Prose and Cons. The band serves up a blistering ska-punk shot of energy with the song La Di Da, a song about not worrying about what has happened yesterday and enjoying the moment, partying, and having fun. The album also focuses on serious subjects such as child abuse with Yesterday’s Gone. Yet another topic is covered with Wasting Time, which talks about people who from day one planned to leave a relationship but still waste your time by staying in it anyway
